That was a beautiful, loving and heartfelt message. I know it's very, very painful to confront the human failings of someone you love very deeply, but remember that the very credo many Christians doggedly spout -- "hate the sin, love the sinner" -- would also apply to those who stand in judgment of their fellow man.
I hope that you gain peace in sharing your feelings with your dad, whether or not he ever comes to embrace or even accept your position.
Many years ago I wrote a similar letter to my grandparents regarding their intolerance toward my choice to marry a man of a different race, whom they will not accept. It is so difficult to be the target of bigotry within your own family, but you must be a beacon of love and enlightenment. You can not make someone change their beliefs, but you can, by way of example, show them something that may persuade them to make the change that only they can make for themselves. I wish you well in your family relationship and I hope for peace between you and your father and the return of unconditional love from him. Namaste
