I believe there are many different types of art and artists, and I would label this one the self-indulgent artist. There's a place for that certainly.
But for me art is mainly a form of communication and demands I consider both what I am trying say and how the receiver will interpret it. I can't control the receivers view point, but by taking it into consideration, I think I can communicate more effectively.
This is how I feel in a kitchen. Except the silence part, because kitchens are noisy. But my heart is still and peaceful, and I think that's more your point.
And I don't think it's self-indulgent at all. To give yourself fully to divine influence, to let the divine use you and your abilities to communicate, create, and manifest itself into the world; this to me is a dedication, not a self-indulgence. "Self" rarely enters into it, actually.
Which is also why I have trouble accepting praise for my work at Gatherings.
