Against my interweb scruples, I accessed the Word Challenge application yesterday on Fakebook and played the motherfuck out of it, but mostly so I could beat everyone at the SERL.* I have now done so--of all my friends, I am in second place with my cousin in first, and he goes to grad school to teach ESL. About a month from now, I'm going to take the written exam for state certification in legal interpretation. I'm fucking terrified, but I need to have a backup plan for when grad school--which was a backup plan in the first place--doesn't pan out. In Stalem for a week of serious eh: looking for good source texts for translation samples, studying for the GRE, not leaving the house, and rarely leaving the bed. EFF MY LIVELIHOOD:
Almost 100% sure that I'm going to grad school for translation first. I've got my eye set on an MA from Amherst but ideally an MFA from Iowa or Arkansas--I might be willing to move out to the middle of nowhere if I'm guaranteed a fellowship and a good hermitage with a low standard of living for 1.5 years--but have no idea if that will pan out.
