I have a student in my 2nd grade class next year that is G&T. He's reading at a 9th grade reading level. He's really into fantasy/magic/knights books. Since he is not the norm, I do not have a ton of young adult chapter books for him so I have been stocking up.
So I ask, do you know of any good young adult fantasy books...

Eragon & Tempest (The 3rd coming out next yearish)
Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Weiss & Hickman
(book one of the trilogy)
Redwall
The Thief Of Always - by Clive Barker
And it does insinuate sex, but there is no sex in the book at all:
The Eyes of The Dragon - by Stephen King

Wish I could suggest more, but I've been beaten to the ones that are relatively 'safe' for the age in question.

I think I will pass on the King. Let him read that at home where his mom can be responsible for his reaction to the sexual overtones. :)
Thanks!

I'd add the Anne McCaffrey Dragons of Pern series (umm, like the first five?), especially the Harper Hall Trilogy -- start with Dragonsong. Actually, there's probably enough there to keep him busy for the duration of the school year. I kid you not.
Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game is a hit.
His Dark Materials series by Pullman. Start with The Golden Compass. They both disappear off my shelf every year.
I loved the Incarnations of Immortality series by Piers Anthony, but I can't remember if it's got sex in it. I don't remember there being any. Great archetype stuff. Piers Anthony also has a whole YA series of various levels.
I love Zilpha Keatley Snyder -- but not really dragon-y and maybe not high enough RL.
Worst case scenario? Call my old high school employer: Hicklebee's Children's Book Emporium. Ask them. They know everything.
