My new dwarf name: "Sleepy"

Dec 30, 2008 10:39

For the past 3 or 4 years I have been... hmmm lazy.  I always wanted a nap and could fall asleep at the drop of a hat if I relaxed enough.  I thought that this was a part of getting older and damn it - I am not going to let age determine how I felt.

A couple of months ago I would walk past the automated blood pressure stations at Eli Lilly and ( Read more... )

Himself has been dealing with OSA for years, and is quite the poster child for what CPAP can do for people. It took some getting used to for both of us, but after some time his whole quality of life turned around.

Good for you, dealing with it. It sounds so dumb and innocuous (so you're sleepy, so what), but this is nasty stuff and it's bad for you. Not to mention when you fall asleep all the time, who knows what you're missing out on?

Awe... thanks.

It looks like I will get the muscle car version of a CPAP due to I have central apnea as well.

Say hi to Himself. I think about all-ya-all a lot.

After being misdiagnosed for years (I was told it was a thyroid problem) I was actually relieved to know what it really was and that there was a solution that didn't involve copious amounts of pharmaceuticals. While I would love to be able to sleep without the CPAP, it solves so many problems for me that it's totally worth it.

I have more energy now, and I don't get the almost weekly migraines I used to get. I always thought they were muscle tension migraines... turns out, it was lack of oxygen! Who knew. :-)

Bed snorkelers unite! Power to the 'PAP. LOL

Yeah I have noticed that my migraines are fewer as well. Oxygen, breathing and life are connected and the lines that connect those dots are painted with a pretty wide brush. : )

Y'know, the CPAP machine is soooo much less distracting than the stopped breathing followed by the gasping snore. I lovingly call him Aquaman now and I will be even more relieved when he gets the correct machine for his situation.

That's great news. Sleep apnea is a nasty thing and so many people don't realize they have it.

True true. I must have had it for years and not have known it. Now that I remember all the times that I fought sleep while I was driving to and from work - there is more than just health that is at risk.

Cheers!~

Good grief...so glad to hear you've begun to correct the problem. I was just reading today that lack of sleep contributes to hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure and heart disease. May I repeat? SO glad to you're on the road to sleep recovery!

Yeap... the Doc said that when you sleep at night your body heals itself. I asked what happens to me. Answer: your body tries to heal itself during the day. Yikes!

Thanks for the well wishes.
