The first thing that comes to mind is that I am still sick.  Not horribly terribly sick but that lingering 20%.  It wonders around my body on tour like a heavy metal band that trashes every room they stay in for longer than a day - then move on.  I would like to dun please ( Read more... )

I don't feel so bad now. Here a little while ago I was trying to figure out why I was having such a hard time playing the harp and I kept flubbing up because my fingers would automatically TAP the strings rather than PLUCK them. I couldn't get my brain to wrap around the difference. Still trying as a matter of fact. :-)

So I know what you mean in a slightly different manner.

That is why I want a hammer dulcimer--no awkward hand holding positions. Each string is the note it is, there is no need to press on any of them to change them into something else for a few seconds before pressing on them differently to get yet another note. And the grip for the hammers is similar to 100's of other things I've done/held.

That said, the guitar is easier to tune, easier to obtain in the first place, easier to carry with you, easier to find teachers...

Good luck with it, I'm confidant that you do have the perseverance you need for this goal.
