Fanmix - You Pierce My Soul (Persuasion by Jane Austen)

Oct 20, 2013 17:47

I signed up for Literary Lads over at lisal825, choosing Captain Frederick Wentworth.

After writing a short biography of his character I realised it was too little, and decided to make a fanmix as well. Note, the title for the mix comes from Wentworth's letter.

1 - YOUR SONG
by Ellie Goulding
2 - SILENT SEA
by KT Tunsdall

It's a little bit funny
This feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money
But boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where
We both could live
I was happy in my harbour
When you cut me loose
Floating on an ocean
And confused
Winds are whipping waves up
Like sky scrapers
And the harder they hit me
The less I seem to bruise

3 - THINK TWICE
by Groove Armade
4 - THE BOLDER THING TO DO
by Gregory and the Hawk

Why do we never know enough of happiness?
Why do they never show?
All the times we have been so good and caring
How many times we'll never know
And I even made myself the fool
Who's fallen for you
So let me down softly this time, and
I won't have to come back crying
I just made myself look bad
You're the one who should be feeling that
It'd be better to forget you
But I don't really want to

5 - BETWEEN US
by Peter Bradley Adams
6 - NOT BROKEN
by Skye

Now I'm drifting out over deep oceans
And the tide won't take me back in
And these desperate nights I'll call you again and again
And when you fall down in between them all
Here you are whole, not broken
Leave it behind - all of the pain inside
Here you will be, not broken

7 - THE DEVIL'S TEAR
by Angus and Julia Stone
8 - ONLY YOU
by Matthew Perryman Jones

Some call love a curse, some call love a thief
But she's my home
And she's as much apart for this broken heart, but see
Broken bones always seem to mend
I could start it over
And find somebody new
A beautiful distraction
Just a hand to hold on to
But if you ask me
Would that love be true?

9 - SLAVE TO LOVE
by Colin Devlin
10 - LOVE IS
by Stevie Nicks

The sky is burning
A sea of flame
Though your world is changing
I will be the same
Love is...
You've got the softest lips
Love is...
The touch of your fingertips
Love is...
Knowing you won't let go

11 - I WANT YOU
by Lotte Kestner
12 - KISS ME
by Sixpence None The Richer

I want you so it scares me to death
I can't say anymore than "I love you"
Everything else is a waste of breath
I want you
Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon's sparkling
So kiss me

Why I love him and a short biography:

Warning: this post may contain spoilers.

Mr Darcy, Jane Austen’s best known male lead character which almost everyone loves. He was my favourite as well, until I watched and read Persuasion and was introduced to Captain Frederick Wentworth.

Pride and Prejudice is a great love story, but if I should rate it amongst my favourite books, it would come as fourth. It’s shocking, but there are some stories I’ve fallen deeper in love with, some characters I love far more than those in Pride and Prejudice. I love the book, as well as the two movies I've seen from 1995 and 2007 (I have yet seen the old shows).

We all love the story of the rich man falling in love with the common lady, only to have his heart ripped out when she rejected his offer of marriage, before the happily ever after ending arrives that shocked their families because nobody expected them to like each other. Yes, it’s a lovely story, but I have another story I prefer. Maybe I love this story because it's more angsty, or feels more real than P&P does, I'm not sure, but it's my favourite of Jane Austen's stories.

Frederick Wrntworth:

Persuasion, the story of a young couple falling in love, only for their relationship to end when she’s persuaded to break their engagement because of something as petty as fortune and rank. Years pass and he makes a fortune on the sea and by random coincidences, will return to the house that once belonged to the girl that broke his heart.

When he sees Anne again he realises he loves her as much as before, but believes his feelings are not returned. He tries his hardest to forget her by turning his attention to the other people, especially two young ladies who both have a crush on the handsome Captain. While trying to get over Anne he does and say things which he’s not aware of, fooling everyone into thinking he’s interested in one of the young ladies, and eventually intends to marry her.

Frederick understands the mess he’s made, and after unfortunate events involving the young lady which he has no interest at all in, he leaves in hope that things will untangle themselves because he has no interest in the girl at all.

While gone he hears that the young lady is to marry one of his friends and he’s free from any entanglements. Free again, Frederick seeks out Anne, only to get his heart broken again when he hear rumours of her engagement to another man.

Because he can’t leave at once he accidentally overhears a conversation between Anne and one of his friends, and based on her answer he realises she still loves him. He then proceeds to write her a romantic letter, renewing his proposal and leaves it for Anne to read once he’s gone.

She reads his letter not long after he left, quickly running after him.Not long after he left she read the letter, and then go after him. After they talked about the past, present and future, determined to stay together no matter what.
