"To Break Free from the Cycle of Birth and Death"

Friday night was interesting, if only because one guy on my hall discovered ten bottles of alcohol when he removed a ceiling panel. They were empty, but the head R.A. immediately launched a "Sweep of the rooms", just after the floor R.A.'s had told everyone to relax and go to bed. Maybe the hunt was just damage control, since everyone on my floor ( Read more... )

The R.A.'s agreed that it was probably left over from college. That still didn't stop the head R.A. from suspecting that there was somehow intentionally-destructive behavior. Nobody was thrown out, to my knowledge, since nothing was found after some people voluntarily turned over their discoveries.

Everyone was really excited and tense for about twenty minutes. I took notes, so I have a decent transcript.

I assume that the large number of films has something to do with the film studies class, or at least a teacher who is deeply interested in film. He, "Neil", has taken it upon himself to expose everyone to at least a film a day. There are seven series: comedy, hidden archetype, war, women, men, Hitchcock, and documentary. They're pretty popular; Moulin Rouge filled Young 101 to capacity, and Ghost World filled up the secret Bijou theater. Even the disturbing Walkabout had a huge audience, though the silent films have had weak turnouts.

Of course, some rival group of unclear leadership has decided to show a film series that I can only call "unchallenging". This has included Dumb and Dumber, Van Wilder, Zoolander, and possibly Tommy Boy. I haven't gone to any of those showings, but they have a decent turnout.

So, you don't have a film series?

we have a "classic film" series that shows like maybe three films a week. but nothing like you all. i want to see all those films you mentioned. that would be fun and it definitely fills up empty time. we have a movie outside tonight though. so that should be fun. good thing no one got kicked out... and Zoolander is actually a good movie, you should check it out.

It's too bad. I wouldn't have ever seen half of these movies if not for the free time and convenience.

All right, they do seem to be showing Zoolander an awful lot, so I might go. I almost went to this showing, but it interfered with the razor-thin computer hours.
