right now, mainly because of injuries, the yankees have a lot of young players. and i have been saying for at least the past year, that they need to have young talent, instead of buying all these big-name, old people. and guess what. it's finally starting to work. andy phillips, bubba crosby, wang, robinson cano, and the rest of them are really

In the short term it's working, but keep in mind that they've only played two games without Matsui and Sheffield, and they've been against 17-19 Oakland. Mussina has been the only consistent starter, and I don't know whether their pitching or outfield trouble is more worrying. If Crosby and Cabrera/Williams have to be in the outfield for an extended period of time, the Yankees will be many games out of it by the time Sheff and Matsui return.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if in the next two or three weeks the Yankees trade for an overrated starter (Barry Zito maybe) or outfielder to try to plug up a hole.

andy phillips has barely had any time to play the entire season. even last season, he was third to jason giambi and tino. now that matsui and sheff are hurt, bernie has been playing, and giambi has been dh'ing. so andy is finally getting a chance to play. you can't be amazing straight off of the bench that you've had to sit on for almost two seasons.
they've been playing without sheff for a couple of weeks now, it's just matsui that got hurt recently. and they may have been playing against a team that is under .500, but if you look at stats, they usually have more trouble with those teams, like for example the devil rays. while it may just be a temporary fix, it seems to be working at the moment.
