February is good for my soul

I don't know what it is about this month that makes it so full of awesome, but I swear, I've never had this much cool stuff planned all at once! Maybe it's the same amount of awesome as usual, but crammed into a shorter month, so it feels like more, or maybe it's leeching awesome off of March (a scenario that I find much more likely ^^;).

I'll tell you right now that nothing on my agenda has anything to do with Singles' Awareness Day, aside from giving my students chalky sweet heart candies and making them try to read the messages on them. :B

My first plan for February has actually already occurred. Last weekend I went to see the brand new animated movie Berserk, based on the ongoing and hella' violent manga series that I happen to adore. This was the first of 3 OVAs and really picked up the pace compared to the original anime, telling the first half of the backstory arc, up through the assassination of Adonis. Paula (who hadn't read or watched the series before) tells me that even at the fast pace it was easy to follow and didn't seem rushed. As a fan, I was quite pleased with it. The voice acting in particular was superb (WAY TO GO DATE-SAN!!!), and Griffith's strange, shippy obsession with Guts came through as strong as ever.
My biggest issue with the movie was the way they failed to properly incorporate CG in with the animation. After seeing that sort of blending done so well in Tiger & Bunny, I was a little disappointed by the awkwardly cell-shaded CG soldiers running around in Berserk. Also, though this isn't something done wrong necessarily, it was a LOT more gory than it's older anime counterpart. Still not as gruesome as the manga, but showing everything in color made it somewhat worse. But, my biggest disappointment was that they cut out the naked water fight! D: Still, I'm really excited for the next movie! It should go all the way through the ceremony with the God Hand! I expect to leave that theater feeling disturbed and depressed and loving it. XD; [/movie review]

Next on my agenda is a trip to Tokyo this weekend! It's going to be a verrrry full couple of days. Meri-tan is going to take a trip up from the Kansai region to visit with us~! Either Saturday or Sunday afternoon we're all going to see the Gyakuten Saiban (Phoenix Wright) movie in theaters! The movie is over 2 hours long and covers the whole first 5 cases. I'm excited by the couple reviews that I've read. Plus, the guy who's been cast as Reiji/Edgeworth is to die for. He's so sexy, I don't care that the actor kinda acts like a pedo sometimes. ♥
We're also going to go see the latest Tenimyu on Saturday evening. The rival team for this one is Rokkaku, who are happy and fun-loving, and I really do like them...but I'm mostly just excited to see the Hyotei actors again, to be completely honest. XD
And then! Paula and I have worked out reservations to see Yuzawa's group, Caccinica, in concert on Sunday evening. This'll be the 3rd concert of theirs that we've gone to. Always a treat. Imagine classical style music with an erotic and gothic flare being sung by an androgynous man in heavy eyeshadow and a top hat in a church. That's what we're going to see.

The weekend after that Paula and I are set to rest and bum around Gunma. I plan to use all the time in between to work on cosplay, because for the last weekend in February we've got big plans in Tokyo yet again! That Saturday there's a good chance that we'll be recording for a Touhou doujinshi project. We did this sort of work before, early last summer, but because the books we recorded for went through some line changes, we need to re-record most of the sections. Hopefully, we'll be bringing in a new voice or two, so we can split up the parts better this time around.
Sunday morning, the two of us will be going to a "cosplay fair" in Namja Town, a small theme park inside the Sunshine 60 mall in Ikebukuro. Our plan is to do Tiger & Bunny, with Paula as Kotetsu and me as Barnaby. Should be fun and highly recognizable, but in order for it to happen, I need to finish making it. ^^; So far the shoes are bought, pants are done, wigs are in the mail, and jacket is in progress. I'm going to be extra ambitious this time and try to make my own jewelry in addition to the clothes. :@ I bought a kit for making rings and other things out of silver clay, and Barnaby's ring will be my first time experimenting with it. I've got about 2 and a half weeks to finish!
Aaaaand the last thing on the February agenda is a Green Gun event on the following Sunday night. Really looking forward to it! If this event is anything at all like the one Paula and I went to around Valentines Day last year (but with Ppei instead of Shimizu), it will be totally off the wall.

The end. 8D
