I would normally agree with the claim that Hollywood/America has abandoned "any notion of a separate Canadian identity," but my recent interactions tell me rather the opposite: instead of thinking Canada's just like America, some Americans are surprised at the similarities. This includes everything from one person's incredulity that Canada actually has seminaries ("You mean there are real Christians up in big bad secular Canada?!"), to last night, my roommate's mother on the telephone asking if we had Halloween up here. Somewhat bizarre.
