anyone familiar with Kobo ereaders?

Okay, yesterday was my mom's birthday and my dad bought her a Kobo Vox. Which, as much as she wanted an ereader/tablet/whatever the brother and I both immediately indicated was a TERRIBLE idea because for what she wants to use it for, she should really have a more basic model

My mom said she was going to, whether or not she has I don't know. It was apparently working for a bit today and then stopped again. So there is a part of me that thinks that they just might have awful servers for that thing. Interestingly enough you can still access the store through the web browser.
