I don't have any personal mouse recommendations, but I've heard great, GREAT things about the Razer brand of mice for gaming/extended use. Also, if you have having pain in your palm that goes down your arm - could be that you need a better mouse pad. Make sure you have proper support that keeps you hand at the same level as your forearm, cause that can cause the kind of pain you are experiencing.
Ooh that's an interesting suggestion actually, I think you might be right. I don't use a mouse pad at the moment. I'm quite short and with a slight build, so I think my whole chair/desk setup is wrong for me which adds to the problem. If I held my forearm at the same level as my hand it would make me raise my shoulder (or would have to drop my mouse hand but where it is is dictated by the height of the desk), so it's quite clear I need a lower desk or a higher chair, or most likely a combination of the two. I'm getting an ergonomic chair within the next few weeks so that should go some way to relieving the stress and then (money permitting) will get a raisable (or rather, lowerable!) desk within the next few months. And I've just ordered the Evoluent Vertical mouse which was recommended by quite a few people and seems to have the most positive and least negative reviews out of all the ergonomic mouses (mice?). Spending all this money makes me cry but in the long run I think health is the most important thing and better to change my

I'm sorry that I don't have any expertise to offer here, but just wanted to extend my sympathies and say that I know RSI can be really painful! Mine has died down, but during the exam period of my honours years at university it used to be really bad.
