Castiel can see every moment in the past, present, and future simultaneously. He can pinpoint each pivotal moment of his existence and see the infinite futures that never happened but could've, had he or any other important player chosen a different path.

He can see the future that would’ve existed if he had not been sent to retrieve Dean Winchester from Hell. He can see a future in which he watches the events leading up to and during the apocalypse from above instead. He can see the one day that he meets Dean to bring him to the past to meet his parents because Elemiah - the angel who raised Dean from perdition - is engaged in other duties. When Castiel meets Dean in the past, Dean is belligerent and disrespectful during their entire exchange and Castiel is exasperated beyond belief. After he brings Dean back to the present, Castiel is satisfied but jarred and disconcerted by Dean’s attitude toward angels and the idea of destiny. When Lucifer is released and the Winchesters are captured, Castiel still stands by as the angels break the Winchesters and force them to take on their roles, but does so with turmoil in his heart.

He can see the future that would’ve occurred if Dean and Sam had not met again before Detroit and Lucifer had taken Sam as his vessel. He can see a future in which the angels leave and he becomes human. He can see the day a werewolf tears his trenchcoat to strips and he wants to mourn the trenchcoat, because its flawlessness had represented his power and impenetrability once and he think, What am I now? He can see how he only tosses the trenchcoat away stoically, because such a display of grief will show Dean just how human he has become, more so than a tattered trenchcoat. Castiel knows that the loss of Sam has broken Dean beyond repair and he refuses to add to Dean’s despair. Castiel knows that the hole Sam left in Dean is filled only with darkness and revenge and has no room for him, but he has made his choices and he plans to stick with Dean until the end.

He can see the future that would’ve lied before him if he had refused Crowley’s offer and had appeared to Dean that calm, Autumn afternoon when Dean had been raking leaves on Lisa’s lawn. He can see a future in which he works with the Winchesters and Bobby to defeat Raphael. Together, they devise a plan using the weapons Balthazar had stolen. The night before they put the plan into action, Castiel confesses to Dean that he had almost made a deal with Crowley because he had not wanted to burden Dean anymore. He apologizes sincerely for involving Dean once again in a war he has no duty to be fighting in. Not a man of words as much as one of action, Dean pulls Castiel’s face to his and kisses him.

Most importantly, though, Castiel can see the future that will happen. The one in which the power of a god cannot compete with the love of a man.
