So you're true to your nature no matter what the cost?

I wonder if that's true. People do that all the time.

I heard something else. Wasn't the scorpion and frog, and I can't remember what they were. D: horrible_protag June 14 2010, 23:35:42 UTC
I am neither. I would not attack someone attempting to help me, yet I would not be so foolish as to leave someone potential harmful where I could not watch them.

Yeah the story has a lot of varitions out there! I think the original was the scorpion and frog. immortal_witch June 15 2010, 17:50:02 UTC
Clever. Can you tell that easily who is potentially harmful?

Huh. Coolios. I'm totes the frog. 8D horrible_protag June 16 2010, 05:21:07 UTC
I have experience in these matters. Years of fighting villains, you know.

'Villains'? What defines a 'villain'?

I know I've been the scorpion. Think maybe I've been the frog, too.

So it depends on the situation?

Well, sure. People are complicated and people can change, for better and worse. People in love tend to be frogs. Even when the other person says something like, "I'll only hurt you," they'll ignore it. Or they think, this time it'll be different.

Interesting that you would relate it specifically to that. Love is like any other human relationship and relies on trust. Is it so special?

Which is at fault--the frog or the scorpion?

immortal_witch June 15 2010, 17:51:44 UTC
Most people would say the scorpion because he committed the final act of murder. But the frog should have known what to expect from a scorpion. Right?

The frog was foolish to think that the scorpion's murderous nature could be subdued, maybe, but how could the frog know that the scorpion would risk its own destruction? Can the scorpion be blamed for acting according to its nature any more than the frog can be blamed for its naivete?

I'm only asking questions because I don't have any answers to offer. It's a good story.

Right. You can also say that the frog, who went against his nature to be cautious, suffered because the scorpion stuck to his.

There really isn't an answer. It's subjective. A unique story.

No? The world is simple. People are what the complicated ones.
