he seems to be back to normal now (in fact, even cuddlier than normal)

i used to have to yell at him, throw things at him, etc, to get him to stop scratching the couch/bed/insert furniture item here. now I just look at him and smile when he does it (he still scratches with his paws even though he has no claws, I don't know why) and thus his life is a lot happier... of course, it helps that his paws are all nicely healed and that i'm giving him his favorite (and super expensive) food all the time now...

Yes, poor Mafan.

I think Blue is my favorite. Most people seem to like Red more, but I like Blue better.

In the only non-school-related news in my life, I may soon be getting a puppy. I'm hoping to raise a puppy for a year for a local school that trains seeing eye dogs. If I were going to adopt a dog, I'd probably adopt an older dog from the pound, so here I get a one-year commitment and a chance to have a puppy. (Probably "destroy some of my stuff" should be inserted at the end of that sentence.) But I bet she'll be cute doing it.

yeah, I actually like Red least of the three...

so you realize that you are *only* allowed to get a puppy if you email me pictures, lots and lots of pictures... :)

(and you're right on the destroying stuff bit, hence the reason I got my cat declawed, needed to curb the destruction factor)

I have a home visit on Thursday so they can decide if my house/neighborhood is good enough. We were also hosting a party for prospective grad students last night, so I spent six hours cleaning yesterday and I'll still have to clean a good bit Wednesday night. I'm a little worried they'll think my neighborhood is too crummy, but my house should certainly be nice enough. I live close to several large city parks next to the river and my neighborhood's all midwestern-sidewalk-y with very little traffic. My lawn looks like crap, but I'm not wasting effort on the lawn of a rental house. I draw the line at planting bulbs and flowers out front.

Anyway, I would let me raise a puppy. I just got a research position on a grant with my advisor, so I don't have to teach for a year. (I actually like teaching, but teaching means I have to be at school more.) I'm only taking one class next quarter, so the longest I have to be away from home is about two hours at a time, and I can arrange other meetings so that I can always come home in ( ... )
