I have a lot of thank-yous to say and comments to reply to that I was waiting until Wednesday to do, but then
fiendling and I went out to dinner and we witnessed An Incident that I had to relay -- in a public entry, no less.
Anyway!
Lis and I went to go eat at this tasty restaurant, and there was this couple sitting next to us. The girl was wearing a really cute outfit: a mustard yellow cardigan and a white skirt with black polka dots. I wanted a better look at it, so once she stood up to leave, I looked over at her and her cute skirt.
And then I noticed a large, smeared red stain down the back of it. Like... gigantic. Like half of her damn skirt. Like from ass to thighs.
The first thing I thought to do was notify Lis of this immediately, but she had already seen it as well. And by the time we'd both gotten over the, OH MY GOD THAT IS A MASSIVE PERIOD STAIN ON HER SKIRT, she had left the table. I felt bad about not telling her, but I wasn't going to run after her or anything either.
Once she was gone, we immediately looked to the chair, OF COURSE, and there was blood on it. Not just a wet spot either, but there was -- I apologize, men who know nothing about menstruation -- a chunk. It was chunky period blood. Clearly she was not wearing underwear and was bleeding onto the chair (and her skirt) and didn't notice this. If she had noticed it, after all, she could have tied her cardigan around her waist. How do you not notice that? If you're bleeding that much, you can -- again, I apologize to men who know nothing about menstruation -- feel that.
It was disgusting all around.
We decided we couldn't let someone else sit there without the seat being cleaned, so we waited until someone came to bus it and then told him that the woman sitting there had had an accident. He looked a little bit concerned and then put the candle down on the chair as if to remind himself to clean it once he came back. He never came back, so we told the second waiter who came to bus it, and he took the entire chair away. If the waiter hadn't come back, we would have left a note there explaining the situation.
So the questions, dear readers, are what would you have done in either of these situations in regards to the woman herself and the seat?
What is period etiquette?
