Antique Bakery

Once upon a time I wrote what was essentially my undergrad thesis on the Globalization of Japanese Yaoi manga and cross-cultural readings of gayness. It was mostly audience research based, but it included textual analysis of  a few manga titles, one of which was Antique Bakery.

Holy crap, that looks really awesome. I was smiling goofily for the whole time. I would love to see the whole movie! Do you think there will ever actually be a full subtitled version?

I hope so! It cam out in November. I'm surprised there isn't one already. If I come across one I'll definitely let you know.

WHY DOES KOREA UNDERSTAND WHAT JAPAN REALLY SHOULD AND SOMEHOW DOES NOT, RE: GAY CAKE? Seriously what were they thinking with the TV series? "Well, we're budgeted for either gay, or cake, but not both. So which one gets the axe?" "Weeeeell.... our target demographic does totally love cake, guys." "You make a good point. Cake it is. CUT THE GAY, WE'RE GOING WITH CAKE."

I read on wikipedia they made Ono (the gay character) afraid of women instead. I just cannot fathom how that went. The series isn't about Ono being gay, but is, you know, one of the driving forces of conflict. Without it, there's not a whole lot of story to tell besides "oh yeah, cakes. *jazz hands*"
