London

I went on a quick one week trip last week to London and Paris. Here's a quick summary of the few days I spent in London.

I started by going to Camden Town, where the rockers hang out. I remembered that American Express commercial with Kate Winslet, "My life", or whatever it is, and I saw this sign in the commercial.

Pardon the blurry picture (I didn't want the flash to go off because I didn't want to look like a weirdo by taking a pic inside the restaurant). I ate at Belgo Noord in Camden Town and got the lunch special. As an ignorant American, I had no idea how much is 1/2 kilo of mussels. It was like 40 mussels. I don't think I need to eat mussels ever again. The lunch special included frites, which judging from the frites I got, are reject french fries (the little stubby ones).

I am kind of a dork and while at King's Cross Station, I totally had to see Harry Potter's platform to Hogwarts. I got the Asian tourists who were taking a picture to take a pic for me.

I took a ride on the London Eye. What an expensive ride.

I was staying in Covent Garden and down the street the musical Chicago was starring Ashlee Simpson. I seriously considered going, because I had never seen Chicago, but I decided that I couldn't spend money on seeing Ashlee Simpson perform.

I got really excited when I saw the Rosetta Stone at the British Museum. So did a million other tourists.

I thought of Lourdes when I saw this centaur.

Fun statue from Easter Island.

I took a walk across Millenium Bridge in hopes of going inside St. Paul's Cathedral, but it was closed.

Other highlights:
- The Manet to Picasso exhibit at the National Gallery. I saw no Manet or Picasso, but I did see Van Gogh (sunflowers, chair) and Monet.
- Dali Universe. My fear of snails was exposed on this trip. I enjoyed the exhibit until the end, when I saw this HUGE snail statue by Dali. I had to skip that area of the exhibit.
- Eating unhealthy British food. Bangers and Mash at Garfunkels, which is the equivalent of our Denny's, I believe.
- Classical guitarist in the tube station playing an instrumental version of Tears for Fears "Mad World".
