Think of it as consecration before the actual use.

Part of the act of consecration is declaring one's intention for the thing being consecrated. If you have a goal for the device - a way in which you want it be used, then it would seem to me that a consecration was exactly apropos.

Or, if you prefer in western terms, new tv, new rules.
