Ok, what I want to know is this: How does water upset your stomach? I had eaten maybe two hours before and I was really thirtsy. So , I drank some water. About 10-15 minutes later I could feel the acid oozing into my stomach. I thought water was as bland as you could get...sigh.

just the other day i said to my husband that sometimes water was the thickest, heaviest drink i could get. like, i had to have soda or juice or something else at times because water just upset my stomach wayyyy too much. he looked at me like i was nuts. i have a lot of stomach "issues" like irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, etc. do you have these too? maybe this is why we are crazy and think that water hurts our stomach??

No IBS for me, but I sometimes have problems with acid indigestion, and it's gotten really bad since I got pregnant. The problem for me is I haev a history of kidney stones so I am not allowed to take Tums or any antacid containing calcium carbonate. I want to take pepcid (which I heard was safe) but it's not on my Ob's list. I will have to ask her tomorrow.

I would vomit food I had eaten 7 hours prior! It's mazing what happens to your tummy while preggers. sorry! *hug*

Water has a pH of 7, which means it is neutral. Your stomach acid has a pH of 2, which is highly acidic. I would venture to guess something else you had eaten earlier that was still being broken down was actually causing you to feel sick. :(

The reason doctor's tell you to eat soda crackers (I know, they don't help) is because they are a base with a pH over 7. Other foods you might try eating that are also more of a base are: bananas, figs, watermelon, or potatoes.

You probably know all of this already, but I thought I'd try to be helpful. ;)

Uck, water has to be my least favorite thing to drink right now, every time I drink water I get awful heartburn. And I keep thinking I should drink water (to stay well hydrated) and because I can't think of anything else healthy to drink that appeals to me.

Other than that, how are you doing? I hadn't heard anything from you in a bit, and I was wondering.
