[Memory]

Bane bumped into someone in the marketplace, and thus received a memory crystal. Upon coming home and inspecting it further, he somehow activated it and, as his sight seemed to fail, the memory it contained came flooding back to him.

He could smell smoke floating through the air, could hear the people in the crowd murmuring. A cloth was thrown over his shoulders, covering his otherwise bare upper half. He had his eyes closed, thinking. He could do this. He could win this fight, he was almost at master level, after all, and given his heritage. Well, how could he possibly loose?

He opened his eyes, and Bane - seemingly a passenger in this body, reading its thoughts and hearing what it heard - almost jerked out of this trance due to the darkness that never let up. And yet, he knew that the person he was with could see perfectly... because he knew that he was a spectator in his own memory. The cloth fell from his shoulders as he stood up, and he moved his hands in front of him, feelings of pride and strength rushing through him. He was going to win, he was going to make his father proud. He was-

"Father?" that wasn't his voice, was it? Ah, no, it was. It just wasn't what he was used to. It was higher, softer, younger, but it was still his. But why, if he was in a fight, would his father be there?

Unless...

His body crumpled to the ground, and he heard the crowd hush as he bent over in a bow until his forehead touched the cool ground the arena was on. "Father, I'm sorry! I can't... Please!" his mind was whirling, his father was there? Fighting him? Why?! Why on earth would father be there? This wasn't how it was supposed to happen! He was supposed to make his father proud, he wasn't supposed to...

"Get up," another firm voice commanded, and his whole body jerked as he tightened his bow. "Get up, now."

"Father, please! I didn't mean it!" he cried out, tilting his head up, panic settling in. "I'll give whatever appology needed! But... I can't fight you father..."

"Disgrace," the other man spat out, and he jerked again, this time in obvious pain at the venom laced in his father's words. "You're a cowardly disgrace to me and this nation!"

And, before his mind could register anything else, the crowd seemed to gasp, and the tension in the air grew to its highest point. The only thing he could register was the feel of something warm coming towards his face... and then the pain. The pain started in his left eye and seared outward towards his ear. It felt like something was tearing off his face. He clamped his hand over his face, ignoring the feel of his burning flesh, and it took him a minute to realize that the person screaming from so far away was him. The only thing registering at the moment was that his father had burned him, and... and that meant that... he was... banished.
