character relationships.
The Marquis sees a lot of himself in his current Inmate, partially in that, despite having no magical upbringing, himself, this man is a watching his world change much in the same way that he, himself, saw his own change, as the aristocracy fell out of power. He knows there were many of similar birth who did not survive the transition even half so well as he did (and considering he died in asylum one can say he could have done better). This is something for which he wishes to prepare his Inmate, and rightly so. He hopes that his own example -- with all its past faults, might serve as a lesson for him.
LUCIUS MALFOY - INMATE
Iago was the Marquis' first Inmate, whom he regards much as a son. Theirs was a two-year relationship characterized in how firmly he handled the boy, two years that he spent less angered by his mishaps than disappointed. Despite the wholly authoritarian attitude he held when dealing with Iago on a day to day basis, he has always regarded Iago's opinion highly and is, himself, very afraid of disappointing him. He still shares a mentor role with him now that he has graduated and become a warden, himself.
IAGO - EX-INMATE/SURROGATE BABBY
Currently a regular bedmate with an air of gentle strength about him. The Marquis is aware that Chief Stildyne has some skeletons in his closet, but they're not at all different from his own. In identifying with him, he feels oddly comfortable entertaining him privately, and the odd tenderness with which they have both addressed one another behind closed doors has filled a certain void in the Marquis' life that has long been left empty.
CHIEF BRACHI STILDYNE - ALMOST-BOYFRIEND
His last Warden before he graduated. The Marquis thinks highly of him, in general, even though he never seemed to really respect the boy's opinion when he was in his care. When troubled, he has been an available confidant, and when in good spirits, he's an easy target for flirtation.
CAPTAIN KIRK - EX-WARDEN/DRINKING BUDDY
A man whom the Marquis respects, but is continually confused by. His casual tolerance of the Marquis' equally casual advances has always amused him, and his concern over his heart attack about a year ago has always touched him. The man is, overall, very difficult for him to read. He also thinks he's a secret pervert.
SEVERUS SNAPE - ACQUAINTANCE/MAN OF MYSTERY
Something more than an acquaintance, the Marquis has found himself in her care time and again when he has been injured or worse, so she has become a face he is accustomed to. Her attentions after his recent breakdown, however, has increased his admiration of her.
MARTHA JONES - BAND-AID
A former lover, of sorts. The word might be a little too strong; they used to sleep together, and have been friends, on and off. When the other man pursued a relationship with someone else, he kept his distance (with the exception of the odd spat, here and there). Their friendship took a serious blow in a zombie port, where, fearing infection, the Marquis was shot in the head, only to be resurrected on the barge and taking the whole matter quite personally. They have sense perhaps seen the futility in ignoring one another, or perhaps neither are as angry about it any longer, and so their friendship is slowly rebuilding.
HENRY WEST - FRENEMY/FACE-SHOOTER
In the past, the Marquis has enjoyed playful banter with this person, despite knowing that he makes him nervous, which is not at all unusual. What amuses him about this person, though, is that despite being nervous or afraid, he still speaks to him anyway. He finds that admirable. This has changed more in recent times, when the Marquis has openly chastised him for encouraging some of his former Inmate's less savory habits.
REX - INMATE-IN-LAW/SCARED BUNNY
He tried to touch her boob once.
SHEGO - STRIKE-OUT
He totally hit that.
RAYNE - NOTCH ON THE BEDPOST
This bumlicker killed his dog. Throw rocks at him.
ARTHAS - DICK
This guy reads his chapters and then talks to him about how fake he must be and how he's making everything up. The Marquis doesn't take him seriously, but he can't really be annoyed by trolls when he is their sovereign. HAIL TO THE KING, BABY. On a more serious note, he senses that Crane holds some modicum of respect for him and reviles his former Inmate more than anything. however, he seems content to trust his judgment on most things.
DR. CRANE - CRITIC
They shared a friend and are now just infinitely awkward around one another. Prefect took part in a plot by the Master to get the shit kicked out of the Marquis. It totally worked. The Marquis threatened Prefect that he would get back at him, and this man has feared for his butt-cherry ever since. Over time, and since the Marquis' graduation, however, they have formed an odd but distant friendship. The Marquis' still wants to eventually sleep with him, but largely to prove that it's not as bad as he thinks it is.
PREFECT - STUPID CRUSH
This little bastard stole his man. The Marquis has little to say or think about him, because he doesn't know him. He just knows that after Henry West disappeared off the barge the first time, the boy's immediate reaction to showing he was sad, as well, over his vanishing, was to fly into a rage at him. They've not been on good speaking terms since.
DR HORRIBLE - EX-IN-LAW
