With full honesty now I tell you I am not at all certain whether the waters of this last flood struck me or not. I am unbothered by the things that I have said, though pleased at the things I have learned of many of you. Know, my darlings, that you need not feel ashamed for those things that were brought to light. I for one think no less of any ( Read more... )

I'm fine. I didn't need much care.

You need enough to be in the infirmary.

...Are you just naturally angry when you enter lavatories, or do you find your assailants are?

Just to ensure there was no serious damage.

I didn't start it; Hoffman did!

I'm sure; it just seemed safe to ask.

You must be careful or you shall develop a history with bathrooms.

I'd like to be angry and pretend to be both surprised and outraged that the Barge has once again violated my sense of free will and fair play, but then I return to the conversation I had with you and find myself laughing rather helplessly.

For the record, thanks but no thanks.

[a chuckle]

Bit late for that, dumpling. Cat's out of the bag. But that conversation and whatever outcome there may be in the future is yours and your wife's to decide, and I cannot fault you for falling on the side of...prudence.

The invitation stands.

Marquis, if it were anyone, it would be you. You have my assurances.

You are wise, sir. Some things I did not wish to know, but I do not believe the knowing is harmful.

I don't get why they said all that stuff over the journals.

For whatever reason I'm sure it seemed natural to them (or us) as making a perfectly normal journal entry.

Yeah, well. They're either not that bright or the flood did something to their head.

Rex said he would meet me. When he didn't, I went looking for him and found him in the showers with Hoffman. Rex was on the ground, hurt. I shoved Hoffman aside and kept between them until the warden arrived.

[Pause.]...I didn't hit him until he started to go after Rex again. That man is a monster.

Is that sufficient?

Most sufficient, my treasure. Are you unharmed?

My leg hurts and he ripped my shirt, but I'm fine.

I wasn't affected by the flood, at least. I...know I wasn't.

Oh?

Do you wish to tell me something?
