Do you know I never fancied ships in my youth? I had in my delusions, as a prisoner given to an obsession with numbers, once predicted that the letters I was receiving included secret 'signals' that I would be exiled to Barbados the following fortnight. This sent me into such a passion that I wrote probably some of the most unkind letters to my ( Read more... )

It certainly doesn't have the same rocking motion a ship on water does.

Definitely not. I think that is one of the things I most enjoy. Salt air, as well -- I'm not especially fond of the smell, much less what it does to one's complexion.

If I'm honest I'm not really one to care about complexion all that much.

I'll tell you though, the view from this particular ship's deck is infinitely more interesting than any of the ships I've ever been on.

Oh, I certainly agree.

The only interesting sight I ever beheld while aboard a ship before had more to do with the people than the scenery. While traveling to Italy I boarded a ferry, disguised as a priest. The weather turned ominous and tossed the little ship rather mercilessly, and many frightened patrons asked me to hear their last confessions. I politely agreed.

...We reached our destination safely, of course.

[ If Lucius could, in hindsight, diminish the time it takes for him to reply, which is a good while, he would. It's telling. But eventually, this is produced; ]

I have pressing requirements. If you would please refer to the following:

a) a new room, as current quarters are quite unlivable and insufficiently furnished;
b) wand and full magical faculties restored (please refer to Severus Snape for consultation in this matter);
c) a full copy of the files you have obtained about myself;
d) indication from yourself that you would be willing to provide some petty common luxuries.

Hopefully all can be in order in good time.

a) They resemble my quarters at Azkaban. If you have read my file, you know what this is. When compared to the rooms of other "inmates", this is soundly unfair.
b) See below.
c) Thank you.

I see you are taking these roles to heart. I will do you the honesty of stating plainly that I do not

Perhaps meeting would be more appropriate. State your preferred location and be there within the hour.

Oh no, that absolutely will not do at all. I will see about reasonable accommodations.

[Because fuck prisons, is the Marquis' way of viewing things]

Since you're feeling brave, my cabin is room four on the third level. Large iron door; you cannot miss it. Be careful; the ship has been a little less than predictable of late.

Demands for petty luxuries...I wonder if he has any idea at all who you are.

Bloody Lucius. I said I would advocate for his magic; I did not say he could name-drop as though I am some sort of weapon to be wielded against his warden...

As stated above, I do advocate the restoration of his wand and abilities, as I do for all inmates with magical ability.

However, in the case of Lucius Malfoy, I suggest a compromise. Restoration of his abilities, with the caveat that he can not perform spells used to harm others. I also suggest requiring him to work in exchange ( ... )

My thanks for contacting me privately, and I will consider what you have said. Please understand that I have the greatest of respect for you and what you are attempting to do. However, I must beg that you have faith in my ability to assess the situation on my own and come to some conclusion regarding how Monsieur Malfoy is to be handled.

I think that you do but I am already concerned that he will attempt to bring all grievances to you.

Rest assured, any grievances brought to me will be communicated or deferred to you. I wish to see my friend become the man I know he

I have only promised him that I will advocate for his magic. With the above, I have been as good as my word.

I didn't come back for this. Dear God, Marquis, I wish to kill him.

I will not make light of your situation, Iago. The Admiral has indeed given you a most difficult task.

I must stress, however, that you must not kill your Inmate. It is your duty to protect him. Just remember that I am here to assist you in whatever way that I can.

Is this some sort of...trial?

If it will help you to perceive it that way, my treasure, then I encourage it.

You and Doctor Crane have mutual reasons for not trusting one another, and unfortunately earning his trust must be your cross to bear, initially, before you can expect for him to earn yours. Study his file carefully and attempt to know more than the man with whom you have been at odds in the last year or two.
