I love the show, but yes, looking back on it -- S2 was disappointing compared to S1. Morgana's character development suffered greatly and I thought Arthur/Gwen came about all too suddenly. The little hints of Arthur and Gwen growing closer toward the end of S1 worked much better for me than what they did in S2. I mean, really...it's only the SECOND episode of S2 and Arthur and Gwen are all TRUE LOVE already? *sigh ( ... )

Ditto, on pretty much every count. Especially on getting to see the gang all together. The cast is adorable, they clearly adore each other, and they really bring out the best in each other when they're in the same scene. Plus, you know. Concentrated awesome. Win! As you said, we got way too little of that in the second season to make my geeky heart happy.

Which the other thing that confuses me - I don't really spend a lot (okay, any) time in the Merlin fandom... Do people hate Morgana? Are there ship wars? I mean, the show itself is so freaking friendly that I just assumed the fandom would follow suit... Point being: Everyone should love Morgana and be irritated at her mistreatment last season!

I suppose the big other thing that sort of gets on my nerves about the show is that sometimes it seems to be trying to hard to be a 'family show'. I mean, writing to the broad 'family' audience is no easy task, and I feel like more often than not the "Merlin" writers choose to write down to the audience rather than up to it. Happily, it ( ... )

Point being: Everyone should love Morgana and be irritated at her mistreatment last season!I've been in Merlin fandom for the better part of the year...all through S2 as it aired, definitely. I don't know if I have an accurate sense of fannish reaction. From the people I talk to, they definitely weren't happy with Morgana's treatment. I'm sure there are fringes in the fandom who dislike Morgana a lot and didn't mind her treatment -- I haven't encountered them though. There was someone making an anon! hate comm for Katie McGrath, which was shut down thank goodness. I've heard some unfortunate talk about Katie McGrath having no acting talent ( ... )

Well I'm glad to hear that the Merlin fandom isn't completely jack-shit insane. Shipping wars always confuse me, particularly when all of the characters are made of awesome. I understand being irritated when your ship doesn't get enough screen time (poor Arthur/Morgana shippers last season...), but the anger just confuses me.

In any case, awesomeness.

With any luck the next season will place more emphasis on engaging plots and ones that involve all of our favorite people! *hopeful*

Morgana Morgause would be creepy. Therefore, it must happen!

I'm only a casual watcher but even I found the Gwen/Arthur thing a bit far-fetched.

But that's how TRUE LURVE works! One day you realize that they are everything you ever wanted and that they've been in front of you the entire time! And then there is instant LURVE! And the magical LURVE fairy sprinkles LURVE DUST on the happy couple and there is LURVE!!!

...

*cough*

I mean, yeah. Totally. Far-fetched like whoa. *grin*

I totally agree with this. I was obsessed in season 1. In season 2... my interest dropped. It started to seem like people were wilfully ignoring Merlin's magic since it was happening right in front of their noses *cough* Arthur *cough* *cough*. They need someone to find out, because the plot resets every episode and it is frustrating.

Agreed. I guess that's sort of the thing that irritates me the most about the show at the end of season two. There was forced progression on the plot-lines that I was fine with letting linger for a while (Morgana and Gwen/Arthur), but when it came to the bit that would probably make the show more engaging and interesting (Merlin being discovered), they stalled. And as you mentioned, nothing is more likely to get you to loose an interest in a good show like the reset button.

*sigh* Why must the writers foil us at every turn?

But hey, with any luck this next season will reek of awesomeness. I'm hopeful!
