In which Colin is hopelessly in love with James, James is glad nominal determinism exists, and Angel and Catherine get scheming. (All this makes it sound like there's a lot more going on than there is.)

Colin watched James over the rim of his teacup and sighed, misting up the glasses he had been forced to don that morning. His eyes had been particularly irritated by his contacts and he couldn’t face the thought of a day plagued by itching eyes. James glanced in his direction, waved, smiled, turned to kiss his girlfriend. Colin sighed. Angel was… lovely. That’s all there was to it. Lovely, beautiful and apparently here to stay. Bugger.

James had seen Colin watching him before, but had never made anything of it because, well, what was there to make of it? Better to do nothing than kick up a fuss and end up embarrassing both of them. He met Colin’s eyes, smiled, waved and turned to kiss Angel. Angel. Nominal determinism if he’d ever seen it. Amber eyes and chocolate skin. Angel. He didn’t like to think of himself as soppy and romantic but there was little doubt that if anyone could see him now, or God forbid, read his thoughts, there was no doubt that those would be the first adjectives that sprung to mind.

Catherine watched Colin watch James and wanted to give the poor boy a hug. Arse over tits for him and not a thing she or anyone else could do. James seemed to be vaguely aware of Colin’s all consuming amour but was too awkward to do anything about it. She couldn’t tell if Angel had noticed yet, though Angel being Angel she wouldn’t mention it if she had. In fact she’d probably sympathise with him and try and set him up with someone she knew from work. Catherine sipped her coffee, and tried to catch Colin’s eye. He was looking down, blushing furiously into his tea. Something ought to be done, if only she could figure out what.

Angel kissed James but watched Colin blush into his tea. She must do something about that. It was terrible to watch him suffer. She’d never let him or James know that she knew about it, in fact she wasn’t even sure if James himself knew. She had sneaking doubts, Colin wasn’t exactly secretive after all, but you never could tell with boys. There was a lovely bloke at work though. Reminded her of King Arthur for some reason. Well, there was no harm in introducing them. She smiled at James again.
