I found out that when metal gets really hot it turns red, just like in the cartoons. Why does it change colour? How come it turns red but stuff like branches turns black?

Oh, well, I am not sure. I am sure we can find something about that in the library.

Why not? If I keep it in the fire, will it burn?

Metals in general are very difficult to burn because of their molecular structure. Most will melt before they'll burn.

But...many shaved or powdered metals will burn, like aluminum.
