lawl yeah, I have more. Sometimes it just snowballs and I don't bother to write it down, but I guess I might as well finish where I left off.

Continuing from Mustang reading up on medical alchemy to heal Hawkeye's burns, it's most likely that this is also when he learns pinpoint flame alchemy. In Ishval, it seemed like all he performed were big explosions, so he didn't have to think too much about intensity or his exact target. But in order to safely (well, as safely as one can do without causing critical injury) destroy the research on Hawkeye's tattoo, he would need both control and accuracy (IT SAID 'BIRTH CONTROL' BEFORE I CAUGHT MY TYPO LAWL). So in addition to the biological alchemy books, he probably read more literature on oxygen concentration and pressure, as well as practice on dead pigs or whatever to perfect pinpoint flame alchemy. Hawkeye may have given him pointers on how to get an accurate and precise hit on a target, but I'm pretty sure it has more to deal with controlling the oxygen around an object. I have a whole nother rambling about the science of how Mustang's alchemy works, but I'm not finished or satisfied with my theory. It's kinda weird for me to apply my knowledge of chemistry, thermodynamics, and the properties of air to something so obviously not feasible like alchemy. I've read the FMA wiki on Mustang's alchemy, and there are parts of it that I disagree with, not to mention that I feel like it doesn't justify enough how difficult and powerful flame alchemy truly is. BUT HAY WHATEVER, it's fake science, who am I to explain how it works? hahah

Also, that scene in bro-hood when Hawkeye shows Mustang the tattoo for the first time, I was like LAWL WHY IS HE JUST STANDING THERE? I mean srsly, where's his reaction? It totally ruined my headcanon after I read the manga. Okay, I admit, I read the fics, and it's either all angsty or ends up with sexy times (or usually both); but why do people forget that, deep down, Mustang is a total awkward and gentlemanly nerd? Honestly, that scene plays out like a 4-koma omake to me. When Hawkeye plans to show Mustang the tattoo, she takes him to her father's library (you know, so he has the resources to decode the research), says something vague like "I want to show you something" and slowly starts to unbutton her blouse. Mustang immediately covers his eyes and sputters stuff like "NO, WE MUSTN'T DO THIS, RIZA. YOU ARE IN AN EMOTIONAL STATE OF MIND RIGHT NOW AND I WILL NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR VULNERABILITY. I WILL RESPECT YOUR INNOCENCE." I don't know why, but he starts speaking in a manner like Armstrong cuz he's all noble and shit. So he's backing out of the study as he's babbling away, but he does it awkwardly since he's covering his eyes and flailing, and knocks into an ottoman or chair or something, causing him to trip backwards and land in an uncomfortable position on the floor (probably with his face kissing the ground). All the while, Hawkeye has a Ditto-face and is just like "yo, I'm tryna show you my father's research, why are you actin' a fool" and turns around to bluntly point at her back. BECAUSE OMG MUSTANG IS SO SMOOTH.

Admittedly, yes, there should be more angst because it is a serious subject. But. C'monnn. This is a teenage Mustang and a girl who just suddenly takes off her top for him. He's not gonna gawk at her because that's rude. And Mustang is classy as fuck. Even in the later years if he were to accidentally walk in on Hawkeye while she was changing or something, he'd turn the fuck around. Hawkeye'd be all "it's not like you haven't seen me topless before" and he'd respond by saying something like "yes, but it's a privilege, not a right!"

And what? Nooo, I totally don't make up stories or scenarios in my head. That's what children do when they have no brothers or sisters to talk to. I'm an adult now and have obviously outgrown that.

lulz, fullmetal alchemist
