It seems that the theme of this chapter is the various characters coming to a greater understanding...of all kinds of things. Draco is getting a greater understanding of Harry and himself, McGonagall is opening her mind to things she hasn't really been willing to learn in the past, and Harry is beginning to come to terms with his heritage as a Black. I think the Blacks should be very grateful that Remus is now considered a Black as Remus may be the main person he would be willing to listen to in the beginning. I have no idea how they are going to cleanse a room that can change shape. I think the part I enjoyed the most was seeing Draco realize how Slytherin Harry could be, but I'm not sure Harry is ready quite yet to find out that Draco has recognized that. Learning from the Blacks should begin to make it less unsettling to Harry. It's nice to know the next chapter is almost done.

Snape's return sunsethill August 24 2015, 14:07:18 UTC
Ah, I forgot about the question at the beginning. I'm horrible at plotting, but I wonder if his vow to Dumbledore to protect Harry is still in effect? If it is, then a threat to Harry should bring him out. It wouldn't even need to be a "death eater" threat, I don't think. Maybe he learns that Harry is working on the cleansing and something he knows about dark magic, the castle (since he was headmaster), and maybe Harry's past as a horcrux would make him realize he needed to come protect Harry. However, I would think this could be handled with a letter, so he would need to have motivation to come in person, or maybe slip up in the sending of the letter. Not sure I can quite believe he would make such a fundamental mistake in sending a letter, though. Ah well. Hope this sparked something. ;-)

I keep thinking the Defense position has something to do with Snape returning. Or maybe saving Harry is such an engrained habit after all those years--and he was shocked that Harry survived in the end--that Snape feels he must return when he hears Harry is injured in the cleansing process. Or his Slytherins need him. Yeah! Those poor kids have no advocates, no information, no help. Maybe he contacts Minerva to urge her not to be heartless (and she isn't) and one thing leads to another. Just some thoughts. :-)
