A Fundraiser for the Zoe Belle Gender Centre
Josephine Emery's book The Real Possibility of Joy: A Personal Journey from Man to Woman will be officially released by Murdoch Books in September. Based in Sydney, Josephine will be in Melbourne in late August as a guest of the Melbourne Writers' Festival.
In this special fundraiser for the Zoe Belle Gender Centre, Josephine will read from the book and answer your questions. Copies of the book will be on sale. This event will be hosted by award-winning film director, producer and writer Dee McLachlan.

Josephine Emery spent her earliest years on a coconut plantation in northern New Guinea. Her family resettled on the South Australian coast. It was here that she first knew, without a doubt, that she was a girl whilst everyone else thought she was a boy.
In some cultures, this dilemma would have been celebrated. But not postwar Australia. Whilst she wrestled with the dilemma she also had to grow up. She tried being a gold miner, a construction worker, a forest worker: always posing as male. But she became a writer of
fictions and movies. She ran the Australian Film Television and Radio School screenwriting department and the Australia Council Literature Board.
She discovered her rich inner world and the blessings of being born 'twin-souled'. She wanted to bring what she had gained through resolving her dilemma to the world. For it is a rare privilege to have walked this earth as two quite different people, and to give up everything in order to gain the one thing you really need.

Dee McLachlan has worked in the film industry for over three decades, having made documentaries and feature films all over the globe. Her credits include the multiple AFI-nominated film The Jammed (as writer, producer and director), M2F: A Journey in Gender Identity (as director, editor and producer), Born Wild and The Second Jungle Book.
