hey thanks dude yeh its pretty annoying unfortunately its not the first time ive experienced it but it was definitely the worst! but i stand by the barbers in degraves lane who have always been great if you are looking for somewhere that cuts hair rather than focuses on gender policing!
aw man, i wish i was close enough to give you a good hug and a haircut. i'm so sorry that happened, and really, good on you for doing something about it.
The twice ever I went into a barber shop (a long while ago now -- they were cheap and next to the uni and didn't need an appointment) they were fucking horrible to me. They told me that men didn't have long hair, and asked when I was going to grow up and have it cut off. Pricks. Also the art was all women draped over cars... I mean, seriously people.
oh god that sounds horrible! fuck im sorry anyone has to listen to that shit!
thankfully i have been going to one in the city in degraves for a long time and have never had any issues there though its not a very "traditional" barbershop and has quite a few women working there but is still heaps cheap, good at super short hair cuts and no appointment needed! i need to stop trying to find local alternatives and get back to the city one now though i think!
So much happier now, having fabulously camp darlings play with my hair for an hour, even if it does cost 5x as much. Working up the courage to say 'girl up my hair' was originally a big step for me, and I still find it really, really nice.
hey thats so great that you have found somewhere that is a good experience for you, its so damn important (even if it sucks that it is more expensive!). i totally have to bite the bullet and go back to the one in the city even if it is less convenient at least they are jerks!

i see that my nervousness in going to a barber was somewhat justified. i am not pleased to discover it, though.
