The Trials and Tribulations of Finishing a Series

Apr 29, 2011 21:03

I've been reading a lot this past month. Part of it was being in the US and having little to do but read. Then I got to Berlin and have hit three libraries and have probably 25 books out, and I've also been reading a bunch of eBooks the last week(s) as well ( Read more... )

random, reading, rl, books, rambling

Try Megan Whalen Turner's Queen's Thief trilogy, if you haven't yet. Starts with The Thief, brilliant trilogy plus a related 4th book centered on a different character.

Also worth reading: Hilari Bell's Shield, Sword, and Crown trilogy. I think you might really like her.

P.S. I'm going to be in Berlin the last two days of June. Maybe I can see you for lunch or dinner or something?

Oh definitely! When are you going to be in Berlin? For two days? Where are you staying? You were talking about doing Europe, right? So where else are you going?

And thanks for the book recs, I'll definitely check them out. Both series sound familiar, which means I can probably find them easily.

So we're going to be in Berlin after Stockholm (overnight train!!) and before Budapest, arriving soon after sunrise on June 29 and departing early the morning of July 1. We're staying at a hostel in Friedrichshain. (I'm splitting the trip between three different friends who already live in Europe. In Berlin I'll have my friend Tom with me, a Welsh guy I met in the HP fic world years ago and who visited me/my parents for a weekend in LA back in 2007.)

Generally I'm starting in Sweden and ending in France, going to visit Munich, hopefully somewhere in southwestern Germany (not yet sure where), Strasbourg, and Paris after Budapest. Lots of train travel, lots of hostels, the way to do it while you're young.

I was going to say you could sleep at my place, 'cause I've got an extra bed plus another mattress, but Friedrichshain is cool. And not far from me. Pretty close to the city center and all.

Sounds like a cool trip. Southwestern Germany... well, there's Heidelberg/Mannheim/Karlsruhe/Stuttgart. I know all of them pretty well, since that's where we used to live. Freiburg is pretty too, as is Tübingen. From Pforzheim (between Karlsruhe and Stuttgart), Tübingen's about two hours away, Freiburg might be about one...been a long time. Strasbourg is a nice city with a cool Cathedral, it's about 2 hours away from Karlsruhe, to get you oriented. Southwestern Germany is pretty nice, especially in summer.

Heh, the overnight train can be nice, are you getting a sleeper car? (Do it if possible, much more comfortable). But that definitely sounds like a cool trip.
