She should have lied.

Because once you say words like this, you can never take them back.

Finality. They needed that. An End.

He holds one end of the rope and she holds the other.

Push-Pull. Push-Pull. Push-Pull.

“I can't do this anymore.” She says softly, testing the words, seeing if they could ever stand on their own.

He shakes his head. “Don't say that...”

But she already did.

Girl meets boy.

Boy meets girl.

Girl loves boy.

Boy loves girl.

This is the story. This is the script, the path, the way the game goes.

Except when it doesn't.

Boy lies.

Girl manipulates.

Together, they destroy.

They burn the city down one night with one tiny twist and one tiny turn, watch it explode, the embers glowing
brighter than the stars.

I can't do this anymore...

People get hurt, people they both love, but really love is just a game.

Prepare yourself to play.

Checkmate.

“I don't love you anymore.” she says, the lie fresh on her tongue.

But she smiles greedily. Acts like it isn't killing her.

“I never loved you.”

And he turns on his heels, abandoning their booth in the restaurant.

Forget games, this is war.

Wars are bloody.

And costly.

No one gets out unscathed.

“I never wanted you,” he says, a new woman on his arm, prettier, thinner, better.

She flees the city with a bloody gaping hole in her heart.

There are no winners.

Push-Pull. Push-Pull. Push-Pull.

He hurts her.

She hurts him.

They don't even end with a ceasefire.

Finality be damned.

Fin.
