I'm flattered that you linked to my journal. As you can see, I've gone over to the dark side. Well, it's the light side from where I stand, but you know what I mean. I was also very surprised that you stated your views, they were different than mine, and you still respected my views. That very rarely happens. It's very refreshing to hear opposing views that are rooted in someone's own beliefs and not the bashing of the other side of the argument.

Next time we hang out, I'll have to give you the whole story of what changed and why.

conformity: In the fifties conforming was the only thing to do. If your neighbor bought a new kenmore appliance, you had to have one too. gotta keep up with those jones's, right? In the sixties everyone revolted. Why be like everybody else when you can have more fun just being yourself? But if you really look at it, that was pretty much conformity too. All they had in the sixties were different groups of people who conformed to each other while not conforming to other groups. There was a lot of love in the sixties, but there was a lot of hate too, and more STDs than i really want to think about. I think America and probably the western world is still stuck in that bubble. Yuppies are viewed as conformists, but people who call themselves 'punk' arent? Maybe it was the opposite of conforming in the seventies when punk was about being punk and kicking ass and playing loud music and anarchy and pissing off your parents. private schools: i think that instead of talking about private schools we should talk about public schools. our system failed. graduation isnt based on achievement, its based on getting your ass out of childhood and into adulthood. o yea, they're not really doing a very good job with that either. fuckin mr hickman still lives with his mom. we have counselors to tell kids whether they think college is the 'right choice' or not. i say let kids take a little initiative. dont spoonfeed the kids who are 'smart' and will 'make it' and dont tell the kids who are on the lower end of the spectrum that they wont survive in college. on teh other hand, we have deans completely in charge of discipline. that is RIDICULOUS. if kids are going to come to school to goof off, they shouldnt come. forcing kids into a classroom wont make them want to suceed. they'll just be more pissed off and make learning even more difficult for those who actually want to be there
