CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Jessica Hamby
Canon: True Blood
Point taken from canon: In episode 3 “Scratches” of Season 2, right before she met Hyot for the first time.
Age: 17 when turned vampire, less than a year old in vampire years.
Gender: Female
Preferred Village: Yomisato

Appearance: A teenager with pale skin, red hair and blue eyes, Jessica Hampy looks like any other child of any proud parent. She is tall and thin, and thanks to her new vampire abilities, a lot stronger than she looks. Like any other vampire she has a similar aura to her that make humans feel somewhat drawn to her, even though they are not sure how or why. When hungry, angered or even aroused, Jessica can bare her fangs, giving her a decidedly more dangerous appearance. In terms of clothing, Jessica prefers simple dresses but also wears shorts and tank tops. When she cries, she doesn’t cry tears but instead of blood due to her vampire nature.

Background: http://trueblood.wikia.com/wiki/Jessica_Hamby

Personality: Jessica is a spoiled teenager, demanding for instant gratification. However, her father controlled her every movement and attempted to make her as the perfect Christian woman. Because of this, Jessica yearns for something more than what she has been contained in. When she was transfigured into a vampire, she doesn’t immediately mourn the loss of her humanity. Instead she rejoices as to finally be away from the rigid control of her father and the rest of her family. Because of this newfound freedom, Jessica is an extremely curious girl, willing to try anything as she is able to. She is impulsive and mischievous, but also a quick learner and even faster to act. Jessica has the unfortunate tendency to annoy everyone with her spoilt nature, naïveté, and bull-headedness.

Like in her previous human life, Jessica also yearns for new relationships with people. When she was human, her father strictly disallowed her to be around boys. She instead hang around her girlfriends, who told her everything about the things she life she desires for but could never have. Now as a vampire, she tries to pursue new walks in life, learning how to make healthy relationships with men . . . or at least, as healthy as a vampire can have, anyway. Because of this, she tries to be sweet and honest with to those new around her. That is, unless they say or do something that displeases her, and then she’ll scorn them or walk away or both. But while she enjoys being a vampire, there are still some things she misses or regrets as a human, but it never occurs to her unless it hits her straight on.

Abilities/Strengths: As a vampire, Jessica has super strength and speed, being able to cover wide distances within a second. She is able to throw men twice her size into walls with her strength and can pin them down. Jessica also has an enhanced sense of smell and hearing, as well as an incredibly fast healing factor. She can glamour, or to hypnotize and brainwash, humans and any other non-telepathy person. Her most dangerous feature of her vampire traits is the fangs. She can draw them out or withdrew them in a second. These fangs are designed to puncture arteries, ensuring massive amount of blood loss as possible. They are protrude behind the maximally lateral incisors, and can be revealed by certain muscles in the face, which causes Jessica to move her head a little before showing them. Her vampire blood, if consumed, can heal fatal wounds, temporarily enhance sense, and can give her the ability to sense the emotions and know the location of whomever it that ingested her blood for the rest of their lives. This blood also gives the receiver to have a temporary increased libido and may have sex dreams about her, which is not so temporary.

As an individual, Jessica is very much a girl with a good heart, if not wild and easily astray. She does show concern to those who need her, and will try her best to help her even if she thinks that she can’t do much due to her general new-ness of being a vampire. While she will respond poorly to disrespect, once given a proper amount (and maybe some bribery), she can get along fine with everyone. She has a childlike naïveté that can appear enduring to others, but only because she is so new at not only being a vampire, but to the whole world. She is a fast learner and quick off the mark. While not intentional, Jessica’s spoilt attitude can be annoying to others and do try to leave her alone real quick when she doesn’t want them around.

Weaknesses: Like any traditional vampire, she can’t go out in the daytime or risk dying by being burnt to death by the sun’s rays. She’s vulnerable to fire, and can be killed by a wooden stake though the heart. Silver burns her and if she is restrained by something made out of silver, then her strength is sucked out of her, making her unable to throw it off as something casual as a silver chain. She cannot enter a house uninvited, and has to be invited in, however if she is told that she has to leave, Jessica has no choice but to obey. (But she can easily glamour the resident into making her welcome.) Hepatitis D is the only human virus that can affect her, as it can cause her to weaken and become vulnerable to attacks.

She has a spoiled attitude, before and after she became vampire. If she wasn’t controlled and limited by her father in her human life, then it is Bill, the one who made her vampire, is also strict. While trying to learn how to be a vampire and how to grow up at the same time, she’s bound to make some bad choices, mostly due to her ignorance of both way of lives and her impulsive attitude. She is also stubborn and thick-headed, and most likely to ignore orders from others unless they are from Bill or any vampire older than her. Because of this, she’ll come off as extremely annoying to others. Like any other teenager, she doesn’t like to talk about her issues at all, especially to those who are so far removed from her situation.

Song Quotes:
Take a look at my body
Look at my hands
There's so much here
That I don't understand

Your face saving promises
Whispered like prayers
I don't need them
I don't need them

I've been treated so wrong
I've been treated so long
As if I'm becoming untouchable

Contempt loves the silence
It thrives in the dark
With fine winding tendrils
That strangle the heart

They say that promises
Sweeten the blow
But I don't need them
No, I don't need them

I've been treated so wrong
I've been treated so long
As if I'm becoming untouchable

I'm a slow dying flower
Frost killing hour
The sweet turning sour
And untouchable

O, I need
The darkness
The sweetness
The sadness
The weakness
I need this

I need
A lullaby
A kiss goodnight
Angel sweet
Love of my life
O, I need this

Do you remember the way
That you touched me before
All the trembling sweetness
I loved and adored?

Your face saving promises
Whispered like prayers
I don't need them
No, I don't need them

O, I need
The darkness
The sweetness
The sadness
The weakness
I need this

I need
A lullaby
A kiss goodnight
The angel sweet
Love of my life
I need this

Is it dark enough?
Can you see me?
Do you want me?
Can you reach me?
Or I'm leaving

You better shut your mouth
Hold your breath
Kiss me now you'll catch my death
O, I mean it
-Natalie Merchant “My Skin”

I’m hunting shadows in the dark
And steaming jungles of the world
Are there to kill or be killed
By creatures never named or heard

I’m lifting wishes to the stairs
To the gleaming satellites of time
Orbiting circles overhead
To future’s love is mine
-Dan Wilson “Breatheless”

Canon Quotes:

Sookie Stackhouse: I don't normally curse. But you have seriously fucked me here!
Jessica: Hey, I know and I'm sorry. But I swear it was like it wasn't even me doing it. It must be all those new vampire impulse control issues.
Sookie: Fuck your impulse control issues!

Jessica: No more rules . . . I’m a vampire!

Eric: [at Fangtasia, about Jessica] She's your punishment, not mine. What am I supposed to do with her?
Jessica: Excuse me! I can hear you, mister rude! I wanna go to the bar. I wanna be one of those dancers. I'm hungry.
Bill: She won't listen to me! It will take more time than I have to teach her obedience.
Jessica: I don't obey anybody! Those days are over.

Jessica: I'd have totally been a slut if I coulda gotten away with it. Me and my friend, Lori, we had this bet since eighth grade over who'd lose it first. And she was like pregnant before I even got my first kiss and my dad was sucha dick head.

Other: Now, I understand that Jessica never really had much a chance to develop her own inner core of ethics and morals due to the fact that she never got the chance to become curious or properly educated thanks to the overbearing men her life, mainly her father in her human life and Bill, her maker, in her undead life. To bluntly put: Bill’s own self-hatred at his own vampirism makes him the worse maker ever, in Jessica’s words. He hardly ever tells Jessica how to be a vampire, but how to mainstream. By simply telling Jessica “to do” but not “to be” in both of her lives, Jessica never had a chance to make any right choice, no matter how hard both her father and her maker tried to do for themselves. While in canon she had to deal with not only Bill’s strict manner, but also learning how to grow up as a vampire as well as a person - which is hard for her, since she’s only a teenager for eternity.

So instead I will take her before meeting Hyot, as meeting him became a very positive step for her character and try to give her freedom that she never had before and basically make her cave in and run amok. Eventually I place canon updates every once in a while just to give her more inner conflict.

Action Writing Example:

[The heavy oppression in the air is gone. The heat in the Southern night suddenly evaporates a curling mist into the invisible oblivion. The weight of atmosphere, the air that gives Jessica’s once-alive body, changes into something different. One shift ends into another: life to death, death to life. (Ahem.)

Jessica knows all too well of changes. Changes in the body that no one tells her; changes in her life she was never aware of until it was too late. Even after death.

Like now, there’s a change of scenery: she walks on the gravel and dirt driveway of Merlotte’s bar. Opens the door -

- and there is nighttime outside. With a large tree before her, the divide between the outside and the inside are gone, the smells of human food and blood - not there. She opened a door to a secret world, like those kids who opened a closet and met a talking lion.]

What?

[It’s all night. And there’s a tree. A big tree. The Hitomi looks at her, from the ground up, her face, confusion etching her face. This place is not Bom Temps. It’s not even Louisiana.]

Hello?

Third Person Writing Example:

Red.

That’s Jessica’s favorite color. She knows the old adage of redheads shouldn’t wear pink, but fuck that. Pink is a good one too. She’ll wear pink any day. Her hair is nice enough on its own. Her daddy doesn’t like for some dumb reason. Some bible reason, Jessica guessed. It’s not like she memorizes The Good Book other than the stories about Jesus. In fact, she now wonders if anyone can. It’s so dense that no one can get a good reading on it. Maybe that’s why there are so many wars over it. Or not. So maybe Daddy is just full of shit.

Jessica isn’t someone who really cares about history.

Anyway - Jessica prefers red more than anything. Black, sure. It’s another color Daddy hates, so she likes it. Daddy hates Madonna and Beyonce, so Jessica will illegally download them before wiping them clean from the hard drive. Anything Daddy hates, Jessica likes. It’s a thrill, really. Because Jessica knows from the bottom of her ever-important heart that despite that Mommy and Daddy says, it’s not evil. She just knows. In fact, if evil sits on their laps and fart into their faces they wouldn’t know what is. That’s just how full of shit they are.

Jessica probably doesn’t know either, but damn if she’ll delude herself into thinking that she does. That’s retarded. (And fuck you too!)

But now the color red is not just a favorite: it’s vital. Her hair will never become white. It’s all red until she dies again. Her blood is red but dark, gushing through her veins and gushing out on the dirt, dying and being born at the same time.

The human blood is red. She starves for it.

Instead she drinks out a bottle full of fake red. It tastes vile. How the dead can taste, she doesn’t know. But it is. It’s fucking awful. It’s shit, and Bill, her fucking Vamp-Daddy, makes her drink it. She hates it, but Bill likes it.

So she goes out in one night, when her maker - her other daddy - isn’t here, and nobody else to babysit her. She’s going to do something Bill doesn’t like. But that’s always going to be the case with Jessica.

She likes the color red.
