I don't understand how people have the audacity to flaunt their materialism anymore. The other day I overheard a woman mention how "you gotta start 'em early" in reference to her kids and designer handbags. Being materialistic is no longer en vogue; the attitude has overstayed its welcome and the rest of us are paying for it

This world is run on money, unfortunately. It dominates everything in our society.

I envy you. I really, truly do. I can give you a bit of..insight into why materials matter so much to some. I...am so materialistic. And I'm open and accepting to that. Sometimes I wonder if I take it out of my life entirely, if it'll just go away.

I grew up in a private school with kids whose families had...literally millions of dollars. And constantly being surrounded by all of that and not being able to have it, makes you want it so much more.

I think those of us that are materialistic are making up for holes elsewhere in our lives. The material goods give us a satisfaction that we don't get from somewhere else, and because we're lacking that, we just keep going after these "things" to give us that satisfaction.

Just my take on it. Because I'm sure, as you can tell by my posts, how I am. And some days, when I really think about it, I wish I could be a lot more like you.

I grew up in an area with a lot of six-figure incomes. One thing my parents taught me, though, was that even if I do have the means, not to go throwing it everywhere. I am grateful for that. We lived in a modest house, drove mid-level cars and took vacations every once in awhile. I never knew or thought about how much my dad made until I moved out. My parents were always very thrifty people, and the payoff there is that if there was ever an emergency (and there have been a few), it's covered. They don't have to worry about how they will pay for it
