SPOILERS FOR GHOST TRICK

In order to understand Sissel, one needs to hear the story of a man named Yomiel.

Ten years ago before the events of the game play out, a computer engineer named Yomiel was working on a top-secret system that was organizing national secrets. However, he found himself under pursuit of spies from another nation who were bent on stealing the secrets.

Yomiel was brought in for questioning, and a man named Cabanela was in charge of interrogating him. However, Cabanela wan't to show off, and started turn what was a simple interrogation into an accusatory speech. When Cabanela left the room, he accidently left his gun. Yomiel, upset and mad over the meaningless accusations, stole the gun and escaped. A detective named Jowd heard about the getaway and chased him in pursuit.

The chase ended in a nearby park. Yomiel, scared that the detective would shoot him, grabbed a young girl who was playing nearby and declared her his hostage. And then, something unusual happened.

A meteorite came blasting out of the sky, hitting the ground nearby and breaking into small fragments. One of these fragments pierced Yomiel's heart, killing him on the spot.

But Yomiel wasn't dead. His spirit awakened as a ghost with powers, and a nearby stray black cat suddenly became his new host for his spirit. Later, he made it back to his corpse in the morgue, possessing it and using it to walk out as if nothing had happened.

As it turns out, that meteorite gave him the power to possess other things, and also had an effect on his body as well. Over time, Yomiel saw that his body did not age, as the meteorite fragment had frozen his body in time, making him effectively immortal. Any wound he would recieve would immediatedly close up.

Not soon afterwards, Yomiel tried to visit his fiancee, Sissel. But he was too late. Sissel had killed herself, and Yomiel fell into a deep anguish and lonleiness that eventually drove him into madness. The only companion he had was the black cat he had possessed before, who he called Sissel, after his dead fiancee.

Tormented by his immortality and lonleiness, Yomiel came up with a plan to take revenge on the people who had led him into the situation of being struck by the meteorite. Using his powers of manipulation, he first brought suffering to Detective Jowd by changing a part of a birthday contraption his daughter had made for her mother, making it into a murder machine that killed Jowd's wife.

Yomiel struck a deal with the nation who had tried to steal the secrets in the first place, offering them his services as a manipulator in exchange for help in his plan for revenge and one other thing- an artificial life.

During one night, Yomiel put his plan into action, The little girl who he had taken ransom all those years ago had grown up to be a rookie detective, and Yomiel posed as an informant to meet her alone in the middle of a junkyard. Clutching a briefcase, Yomiel told her about how he was the same man who had capture her all those years ago, then jumped into her mind and made her shoot him. However, the first shot missed it's mark, but Yomiel increased his manipulation and eventually the bullet found his mark. The security cameras caught this exchange, and Lynne became wanted for murder.

Inside the briefcase was Sissel, the black cat who had been Yomiel's companion for all these years. Yomiel then possessed Sissel's body to escape the crime scene.

However, what he didn't realize was that the first bullet which had missed had killed the cat. Sissel was dead.

The cat's spirit woke up, but seeing Yomiel's body, mistakenly assumed that Yomiel was who he was when he was alive. Having lost all his memories, Sissel began using his ghost powers to save people that he believed could help restart his memory, including Lynne. Fighting off assassins and meeting all kinds of quirky people, the two delved deeper into the very mystery surrounding Yomiel. In fact, Yomiel was planning to have Detective Jowd executed, but Sissel came in at the last minute and help Detective Jowd escape, before he was unfortunately caught by Inspector Cabanela.

Later on, Sissel learned of the manipulator, a man who the police believed had been behind some very strange crimes. The manipulator could possess people and make them do things they would never do in real life. When Sissel traveled to Cabanela's office, he discovered the inspector dead, and Yomiel standing in front of the body, holding a gun and grinning evilly. That's when Sissel realized that this man who looked like him (Sissel had taken Yomiel's appearance, believing that's what he looked like) was the manipulator himself.

And that is the very moment he blacks out, waking in New Bark Town.

Sissel still has no clue that his real identity is a cat. But now his confidence in what he has found has been shaken- who is this manipulator? What does he want? Sissel heard about the hostage situation that occured ten years ago, but what was a man who died ten years ago doing walking around alive? Why did he show up that very night, and then was shot by Lynne, who had no recollection of ever shooting the man?

And the most important question he keeps asking himself is: who am I?

Affiliation: Trainer.

Personality:

The best word that can describe Sissel is "cool". No, not as in "he's awesome" cool, but as in that he appears calm and collected to almost anyone who meets him. He rarely gets angry, instead relying on simple disapproval to get the point across that he is not happy about a situation. Sissel is also rather optimistic, but skeptical at the same time. When someone tells him  to do something he thinks is an impossible task, he simply replys "That's easy for you to say." But he keeps hope that everything will turn out right, and he'll do anything to make that happen.

Sissel is also slightly aloof and self-centered. In the very beginning of the game, he keeps saying that his major goal is to find out his identity, and that he'll only do things or save people if they'll help him out with this. But under all of this is a noble heart. Later, when he finds out that Lynne was the one who shot him, he tells her that he'll keep saving her despite this fact. So, while he may say that everything he's doing is just to help himself, he really does care about the wellbeing of the people around him, especially those who are close to him.

He can be a bit sarcastic at times, but he only uses it to prove a point, not to actually hurt anyone's feelings. He can be a bit of a joker, but he mostly seems like someone you can rely on. He won't push ideas down anyone's throats, or order anyone around. Basically, he's a nice guy, but not overly so. He's just a pretty clever, logical, and cool person.

Strengths

One of Sissel's greatest strengths is his perserverance. He doesn't give up that easily, and if he wants to make something happen, he goes and does it. If he fails, he tries again to make it right. Expanding on this trait, he also has a lot of patience, thinking through things without panicking unless the situation is down to the wire and he needs to make a decision quickly. He also has a sense of justice, as when seen how he reacts to the manipulator's actions. He understands that killing and hurting others is wrong, and will do whatever it takes to fix the situation.

He also is not pushy or bossy, and listens to people without interrupting. In situations where most people would be running around with their heads cut off, he is calm and collected, thinking things through.

Weaknesses:

One of Sissel's major weaknesses is that he can't read. At all. If you hand him a note or a book, he will look at you blankly and tell you that he has no idea what it says. He attributes this to his loss of memory, but in reality, it's because he is a cat and cats can't read. For the same reason, he doesn't know the meaning of many simple concepts, like "kidnapping", "water pressure" or even "music box". This makes it hard for him to really understand the human world that well.

Second, since Sissel lost all of his memories, he is at war with himself as to who he supposed to be. Now that he thinks that the manipulator was himself, he's doubtful as to whether he is a good person or not. But he'll never show it, of course. He'll keep going with his slightly sarcastic comments and secretly deny that he might have been such a bad person when he was alive.

First Person Sample:
[Hello fellow trainers! If you're in New Bark Town, you might see a very classy-looking man with a red suit and sunglasses, staring at a map in his hands in confusion.]

[Currently, the map is upside down.]

...I still have no idea what this says. And here I was thinking I would be able to remember if I looked at it long enough.

[Sissel sighs before folding up the map and putting it in a pocket.]

Pokemon, huh? And now I'm human, as if I had never even died. I have to admit, it does feel strange using hands. Or walking. Or actually talking with an actual mouth...

If Lynne were here, she'd tell me what to do. That, or run over to a restaurant and attack the first roast chicken she can find. Either way, I don't think she would be much help in this case. ...And, knowing her, she'd probably get herself killed off as soon as she was here.

[And then he looks rather worried.] But this time I don't have my powers to save her...

Third Person Sample:

It was a lovely morning, and Sissel was outside, leaning on a tree as his sunglasses caught the light of the sun beaming down from above. So, this is what the breeze felt like.

But, Sissel thought sadly, none of his memories had come back, no matter what he felt or saw or smelled. How come all the other ghosts he had met had remembered their lives so quickly? It almost wasn’t fair. He was just a blank spot in a world filled with color, unsure who he was and what purpose he ever had in life. While others fondly remembered memories with family or friends, Sissel could only ponder over whether he even had a family or not when he was alive. Why couldn’t he remember? Why couldn’t he know who he was?

Sissel sighed. This wasn’t something he should get worked up about. He was alive now, in a new world which was just asking for him to take it in. The smell of the flowers was lovely, and Sissel closed his eyes, listening to the peaceful music that always seemed to hover above this area.

Being alive, he thought, definitely had its advantages.

As if to agree with him, his Gastly suddenly floated up before licking him on the face. Sissel recoiled, sputtering from the wetness that was now dribbling down his cheek.

“C-could you please not do that? It sort of hurts, you know.”

The Gastly just bobbed up and down, its mouth wide open as if it was laughing at his antics. Sissel sighed, taking off his sunglasses to wipe them off on his suit. He slid them back on, turning to look at the bright sun, the sun which he thought he would have never seen in his life - er, death. The lamp had told him he would cease to exist before dawn, after all. But here he was, alive like anything else, staring at a sun that was warm and bright and lovely.

Good morning.
