[This random voice chiming in should be a little less surprising, considering their track record.]

What's a camera?

[He'd prefer a stranger, really. He's quiet for a while. Maybe if he doesn't say anything she'll go away... Yeah, right.]

You use them to make memories.

[Now that's just mean. She takes a moment to reply, too, but on her side it's because she has no idea what he means by that.]

...Huh?

Cameras take pictures of anything you want them to. The pictures never change and they're reminders of where you've been and who you were with, like memories.

...That's surprisingly deep of you.

[Pause.]

It's not like that. I was just trying to explain it in a way you'd understand.

Don't be shy; it was almost cool. Poetic nonsense is good for artsy types. [Because she assumes "taking pictures" means drawing them, she thinks that a camera is like...a really special pencil.]

I'm not being s--

[Pause. That's the last word he'd ever hear when describing himself.]

Artsy?

You do pictures. That's artsy, right? Even if it's a hobby.

[Did she misunderstand after all his hard effort in coming up with that explanation? Ogeez.]

I guess it is a profession but... It's really not like that.

[It still sounds like he's a closeted artist to her, but she actually doesn't press him on it! A miracle!] Well, if you're sure.

Have you tried looking in the shops?

[She's learning! Fancy that.]

It's electronic, so they won't have it.

[Is she serious? She doesn't really seem like one to pull his leg but, he doesn't even know where to begin with an explanation for that.]

It's... [Hmn.] How can anyone not know? Even in a different world there's probably something similar...

... Don't worry about it. The point is, they don't have it here.

[Of course she's serious. The main power source in Melfes isn't electricity, but rather the souls of teenage girls! ...I'm kidding, mostly.

Anyway, she's not too pleased at the implication that she's ignorant. ...Because after growing up in an isolated village, it's probably too close to being true for her comfort.] Well, they don't have it where I come from, either.
