Yesterday when I was in the final stages of picking up a rental car to go buy furniture for my new Providence apartment, the on-duty manager thrust the paperwork through the car window and cheerfully asked me to put my "John Henry" on the line one last time in order to indicate that the car left the lot with no discernible damage

RI seems alright so far, the States have been okay too, but I miss Japan and have been in the midst of a hellish move (broken things everywhere in filthy apartment when I arrived, initially unable to get furniture up tiny staircase, the list goes on and on), and so haven't been doing sooooo great. On the bright side, I like New England accents and the general no-shit attitude, so that's something! Things will improve soon enough.
