Here's something I just wrote. Comments?

Why Not a Three-State Solution? An important sticking point in the rush to an agreement over the Iraqi Constitution is whether or not the heavily Shiite southern region will be allowed a similar degree of automony as Iraqi Kurdistan in the north. The Sunnis dislike the Three-State solution. The Kurds and Shiites, however, like the idea. I have an article on it actually. It goes pretty indepth on why the Three-State Solution would not work and would, more than likely, result in Civil War or in this case a war of three. I'll show it to you tomorrow, I should still have it.

Yes, I still have it. (Kurds want a great degree of self-rule as do the Shiites, however, the Sunnis expect much power as they have had it during the reign of Saddam. Like I said I'll give it to you tomorrow.

Oh, I know they don't like the idea. What I'm saying is, essentially, so what? They don't like it. Too bad. No one else likes the insurgent bombings either, but you don't see the Sunnis quelling those. Nor did you see them helping out the Shiites or Kurds during Hussein's rule.

I mean, if they really want to succeed and give the finger to the moderate elements within their ranks, they should just set up a bunch of casinos. Mississippi didn't have anything going for it except defense appropriations before the state opened casinos. Sunni Iraq could do the same. All the rich Saudi princes could gamble only a couple hours away from home instead of flying to Monaco.

Another major issue here is the fact that they didn't vote, or a majority of them (Sunnis) didn't. So, now they have a very small, if any, representation in the matter. So, really, if that's what happens they can only blame themselves.

I know there were talks about having another election before voting on the Constitution, but I don't think they are going to - Haven't heard much more about it.

Turkey, a more important factor in US policy making than they probaly should be, is dead against a Kurdistan. Ergo, any Kurdistan will have to be formed after the US government withdraws, even if the US is complicit in the creation of such a state.
