(Alive, read daily, rarely post.)

Awhile back I made a post about a song I was kind of obsessed with. Mad World.
( The post with links to countless cover versions.)

Here we go again... :)

I just stumbled across a live John Cale rendition (with string quartet no less) of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah (original)
Here's a studio version by John CaleRead more... )

I find the Kermit version strangely disturbing. Something about the topic of Kermit being seduced, having his hair cut (hair?) and ...hmm....well, maybe it's not that off topic after all. ;) I didn't watch the video long enough...did Miss Piggy seduce him and steal his, er, um, hallelujia?

K.D. Lang's version was one of my favorites. I got to see her sing it in concert and that woman may be the one to change my chemistry. Just sayin'.

I have to say, I like your taste in music that gets stuck in your brain. Both songs are ones that have struck home for me as well.

Well honestly both of these posts have been because i didn't know the original artist of a commonly covered song, and digging that up caused many other versions to see the light of day.

It's not that they're my favorite songs evar, but I certainly like both of them a lot. :)

I found the kid with accent multi-track version oddly moving.

Thank you for these! (I love this song, despite it being overplayed these days.)

The best version of this I've ever heard was when Ray Greene (local wedding band entrepreneur) did it with a guitarist at a Haiti benefit we played a couple of years ago. He had previously been unfamiliar with the tune but it had been a request, so he stood up on the almost empty stage of Somerville Theatre with a sheet of lyrics and KILLED IT. I thought I was going to jump out of my skin and burst into tears at the same time. It was... um... life changing.

Now I'm crying at my keyboard. This song is one of my all-time favorites, despite being overplayed near-to-death. Leonard Cohen does that to me, in general, but this one in particular.

Do you mind if I link to your post in one of my music blog entries?
