OTHER HISTORY POINTS: Soren is among a small number of children who were, as infants, subjected to an experimental steroid designed to rapidly increase reflex and muscle growth. As should be obvious by Soren’s appearance, it had no apparent effect, save for an unusual birthmark on his forehead. It’s probable, however, that the extent of Soren’s Change Power isn’t entirely natural, and that its development was enhanced by the experimental steroid. Aside from this early beginning, Soren’s life in the Dorms was miserable but uneventful.
When he was quite young, Soren befriended another boy, Ike, and was virtually inseparable from him from then on. Ike was the only person Soren ever trusted (or felt anything positive toward, for that matter). Shortly before Ike’s fourteenth birthday, he vanished - Soren immediately assumed that he had escaped, and set about attempting to do so himself. After taxing his Change Power almost to its limit, Soren was able to refine it enough so that he could cut off the tracer without severing his wrist in the process, although the success sapped his energy so much that he only barely managed to actually escape. Fortunately, he was found by chance soon after escaping, but took a full week to recuperate fully.
Since then, Soren has served more in a tactical/support role, putting his natural skills to good use. His skills with people seem to have worsened, if anything; after concluding that Ike was not among Shade’s children, and that none of them even knew who he was, he had little interest in social interaction.
PERSONALITY: Cynical, taciturn and brutally honest, Soren is never one to mince his words or beat around the bush. He’s serious, studious, and keeps his feelings to himself. He says whatever is on his mind, regardless of the consequences, and doesn’t think to spare another’s feelings. If anything, he seems to take some enjoyment in breaking the naivete of others. He’s only guarded with his words when the matter is personal; specifically, when it has anything to do with him. Otherwise, he displays a stunning lack of tact in every regard.
Because of his tendency to distance himself from others, Soren is also quite emotionally immature. At the rare times when he does become emotional, he has no idea how to handle it, and tends to verbally lash out at whoever happens to be there, whether they were responsible or not. He resists becoming close to (or even social with) anyone as a result. These emotional moments aside, Soren rarely does anything on impulse.
CHANGE POWER: Soren has a limited power over Wind magic, albeit only in a destructive capacity. He’s able to use his magic to break something (or someone), but he doesn’t have the ability to control the movement of objects - even if something were flying at him, all he could really do is get out of the way. Soren has a fair amount of refined use over his magic, having used it to cut off the tracer without causing himself too much harm. However, too much usage of it, especially when refined, tires him out badly.
