Maybe what he needs to know is that you don't give up, and you look for new ways to help you reach your standards... I think it is good for kids to know that adults don't always succeed. They need to see how people cope with it and find new plans of attack.

Oh, I struggle with this constantly. I go into a project at full steam and tend to drop things within 3 mos. I'm dealing with the guilt of the boys growing up around that by telling myself that at least they see it's "okay" to do that--my parents always made me feel like a freak. "Oh, look--B's going to take up karate/volleyball/piano/(nearly everything I could think of to do in that little town)--I give it 2mos until she quits! Or do you think she'll even make it that long?!" :P
