I love the way you wrote about this. It's my feelings towards my boys as well... *sigh* Growing up too quickly lately.
I don't know if this might work for you, but we had similar issues with our park day/loss of priveledges and we finally had to approach things differently because it was nearly always C missing out on time with his friends due to B not doing his (tiny bit of) work. We don't miss park day for anything now, unless someone is sick. Otherwise, if someone still has work to do, they get to bring it along with them and either sit in the car (20 feet from me) or next to me at a picnic table until the work is done. You would not believe how quickly Ben will get through 3 pages of math when all the other kids are running around, having fun. *shrugs*
About karate... *hug* Maybe your path is leading you elsewhere?
