“So,” I asked him as he waddled up to me, “who would you choose, Carlos or Edward?”

A shadow fell across me and I looked up in surprise. A silhouette stood just to the right of the blinding sunlight. I tried shielding my eyes, but it did little to resolve the figure.

~~ i admit that i was half-hoping it would be Edward :)

Yeah, both Edward and Carlos are going to be out of the picture for just a little longer while I address this side story I've kind of moseyed off into here, but I'll be back to them shortly I'm hoping...

Welcome back! It's good to see you around again :) And with a new chapter none the less.

And what a freaking chapter.

The little smut scene was fantastic and my heart froze along with the two of them as well. Thankfully that's never happened to me, but I imagine it would be *very* awkward.

I love the backstory you've given Heather. You always do so well filling in the blanks for times that we should have been given in the series but never were.

Another great chapter! I actually went back and re-read everything so I could be fresh and I fell in love all over again :) I'm definitely looking forward to fresh chapters, no matter what they contain.

Your photos are beautiful as well. You certainly have an eye for nature pics. :)

I'll admit that I was influenced by a romance novel called "A Rose in Winter" by Kathleen Woodwiss for this scene. (If you like Beauty & the Beast, you'll like this book.)

I love the backstory you've given Heather. You always do so well filling in the blanks for times that we should have been given in the series but never were. I've come to the conclusion from watching season 2 that with the exception of Constantino ordering someone to take her out and shoot her, Heather witnessed most of the atrocities in New Bern, but was not a direct victim of any. I feel that if she had really been traumatized, she would have told Beck to take a hike because her judgment and the way she saw the world would have done a 180 from the person she was before. She's a strong person even though she's had a sheltered life. Too much trauma with a person like that would likely turn ( ... )

I freaking LOVE Kathleen Woodwiss. She was one of the first trashy romance novel authors I truly adored. :) Good inspiration! I haven't read *that* book but I'm sure it's stupendous.

Too much trauma with a person like that would likely turn them into too much of a cynic to have helped Beck when he asked.Makes total sense and I completely agree. It shows a lot when she first shows up in the police station. She's obviously uncomfortable being in the man from New Bern's presence but not terrified out of her mind because of ( ... )

I'd have to say this one and well, poop, I can't remember the name of the other book -- the one with the 18 year old Russian countess and the English captain, girl's name was Synova or something very similar I believe, that was published in the early 90's are really the only ones I like by her. The female character saying "I'm two score" or "I'm eight and ten" instead of 20 or 18 starts to make me crazy after the first couple of times. Of course, there are issues I have with solely romance novels that makes them a rare read for me any more. I tend to be more inclined to read something like the Black Jewels trilogy if I want to read romance currently.

Me too. :) I imagine in a few months we'll all be back on board and have new post up in the group daily. Believe me, do I hope so...

That happy squealing noise you've been hearing all week has been me. I feel like it's my birthday and Christmas all rolled into one!! First a new chapter from you, then rubberbisquit came out to play. Now all we need is a new chapter from nativefloridian and my week will be complete. :) A snippet from janiekins would be like extra icing on the cupcake!!

Now, on to the story...

Ooooh - saying somebody else's name...ooooohhhhh, that had to hurt....poor Carlos. Poor Heather.

“He told you he was committed to his marriage?”

Ooooookaaaayyyy...what does Carlos know that he's not telling??? There's certainly a backstory between Beck and Carlos that isn't really...comfortable I'm guessing...hmmmmm....

It was if he didn’t know how or want to understand me, he just compromised. And that unnerved me, made me feel guilty that I had browbeaten him into agreeing to my side.

Not a good sign for a long-term relationship, I think.

Edward, when we argued, for all that he drove me crazy, would see things from my point of view, even if he ( ... )

Ok, so to reply to this quickly, because for some reason live journal likes timing out on me after so many minutes for who knows what reason...

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I've been in an absolutely horrendous mood the last few weeks, so while I've been flitting here and there on LJ, I've been too cranky to do much of anything. :(

But, I'm feeling better at the moment, though. :D

I was debating some sort of side story vignette or drabble between Beck and Carlos where Carlos sees Beck as a rival suitor for Heather. Whether I write it is still up in the air.

Well, that would be interesting... :) Given Beck's comments about Carlos, and then this comment, I was wondering what their backstory was all about.

Beck, I think, can be very uncompromising when he wants to be, a wall of sorts, but I figured that if I showed him being that all the time, well, he'd just look like a stubborn prig, and so, the little softening scene afterward to say, I know I'm being a prig about this, but I glad you're still here and didn't leave. Hmm, does that make sense? Yep, perfect sense. And I think, spot on in relation to his character, especially the little softening ( ... )

Oh, I forgot to mention... The roses are in the rose garden at Reid Park (that bulleye's looking thing from google maps). When they are in full force bloom you can smell the roses from about 100 yards or more away, depending on how strong the breeze is...
