Last night, I went out with Nora and Brian and got WoW. All excited, I installed it this morning. My laptop's video card doesn't work with it, and there's no way I can change that. So today I've been in various stores, checking out new PCs. My dad says that he has a desktop that should run the game, so I'm going to try it out after it's ( Read more... )

It depends. Is there a reason to have a desktop in addition to a laptop? (IMO theres no reason not to have both if you can financially manage) If your dad has a desktop you can have then take it. I was considering upgrading and or buying a new desktop iin order to play WoW. My only problem wih that one was that a bunch of the games I have currently on my desktop that I want to keep I don't own (thanks to Nora and Brian)
So if the desktop from your dad doesn't work with it, keep an eye out for sales on desktops and pick one up. expecially if you're considering playing other games on it, you'll want something that will be able to handle those other games as well.

Nora, I'm going to try to go through my comp and figure out what games I do have from you guys. Would you and Brian be able to make copies of those for me and perhaps as he finds game codes online for them write them directly on the disc with the name?

A desktop would be nice just because of storage space; my laptop is 30 GB (it's an older, larger, and slower hard drive than the 20 GB I had a week ago) and I'm deleting a lot of files to clear it up. It's good housekeeping in any case, but it would be nice to have even the space of a 60GB drive, if not 100!

I'm not against using my laptop at all, it's just that it would be kind of nice to start fresh. The laptop is 4 years old and you know how quickly they get outdated.

Of course, this computer still serves me very well. It just doesn't work with half the games I'm interested in. Morrowind and Baldurs Gate worked, but not evil Alice (I'm still waiting for my PC to work with it) or WoW! ::sniffle::

So now, my Sunday is spent fretting over computers. gah!

That's what I'm sayin! I think it'll get figured out pretty soon. I'm going to wait till I'm sure that I get my bonus before I do anything definitive, but I have such a hankering to play those bloody games now that I have them!

Yeah... so I mentioned my idea to my mom, making it clear that I would buy it, not her. She didn't like that one bit; I had to remind her that it was still in the idea stage, not decision, so no need to go crazy. After she was a bit calmer and able to give me recommendations, she said she could get discounts through Dell via work. They've been recommended before and I've checked them out, but I can't seem to get the Dell website to work today so that I can compare features and capabilities. gr!

I'm told it's hard to change a laptop's videocard. But, if it can be done, I think the rest of my system would be up to speed. maybe.

Hey, Jess. I didn't know you were into ridiculous crap like WoW. I play it way too much, so you should totally bug me if you get into it. You probably already have a server you're planning on joining, but if not, I can set you up on Garona. I can get you in one of those guilds full of people who play way too much and raid those 40-man dungeons, so you could be set for life.

Plus, where do you even live now anyway?

I think I'm going to join Nora and Shada's server. Which is called "?". I already can't remember. I'm worried about being set for life, by the by... I'm sure that (once I have a good computer with a good 3D video card) I'll play way too much. Every night, I start running out of things to do around 10pm and sleep for two more hours than I need to. If I had WoW, I could sleep for two hours Less than I need to. Perfect!

I'm living in my mom's house in Park Ridge, right outside of Chicago. It's working ok so far. I'm working too. Which is also ok. So far. How about you? Did you graduate?

Nah, taking a break this semester, doing more writing for local magazines and hoping to get in the School of Journalism. Living with my young lady and one of my roommates from last year at the end of Henry, near Nottingham. It's pretty nice.

Oh, I just remembered, it's right underneath where Chrissy used to live. So that's... something.
