Do you have vacation time coming at CB? If so, maybe talk to the manager at Guitar Center and tell them that you're a little hesitant to leave your job without knowing for sure if you'd like it and maybe see if he might be willing and able to 'hire' you for your vacation time so you can see if you think you're really ready to leave your other job. I've got no idea if that is at all possible, but it probably couldn't hurt to ask
That's actually a good idea. However, I don't get time off at CB unless I earn it by producing. They would get suspicious if I took vacation time. "Where are you going?" "uh... guitar camp?"
The thing is, I would want to act on this sooner rather than later. I mean, I could probably start mid-November, but I wouldn't want to be doing training at the same time as the seasonal rush. Plus, those months would be more lucrative if I knew what I was doing.
Right now is kind of an off-season at CB. Most companies are looking at not spending too much money before the next fiscal year (mainly beginning in January).
I think I could be interested in this long-term, simply because I go to sleep dreaming about guitar fingerings. However, as I said in my concerns list, I'm not a professional musician. I can count the number of times I've made money from music on a single hand.
I'm not sure how that would distinguish me from the rest of the employees there. Many of them are in bands, etc. Maybe a great place to network.
I remember that I did enjoy running around at Best Buy, but customer service there was kind of stressful. There wasn't the thrill of the sale with it.
CB could be a long term option, depending depending depending. It's a challenge, which is good for me.
This would be a full-time 40 hour week, with 8 or 9 hour shifts, so I don't think I would survive if I did the two jobs together. I guess I'm trying to figure out how "retail" it is... I mean, it's obviously retail, but musician retail. It's a niche in the retail market. The store manager was telling me, "We've kind of got musician organization here." So, things get crazy and disorganized, but there's got to be a good level of creativity involved in everyday activities too.
i am in a similar postion to you.. do i stay at one job or do i want to give it all up to start my entire life over again in a compleatly strange city where i know no one?
i have been doing alot of soul searching this weekend too., when is it a good time to let go. to move on, to do soemthing that you dont know
this is what a friend told me.. it helped me alot in making my decision. maybe it will help :
MorenaOfEden (12:21:52 PM): that's how you know it'll be worth pursuing MorenaOfEden (12:22:24 PM): if it doesn't terrify you, it's not a real challenge
i guess what i am trying to say is you are in your early 20s now is the time to get messy and make mistakes because in a few years we arent going to have the abilty to do that (unless you are like me and are planning on never marrying and having 50 cats)

But, whatever you do, do not hold a 9-5 job and a retail job on the side. It get exhausting!
