This might be a silly question

But, how many of you here knit? I know that I am an avid, and by that I mean I have two sweaters, three pairs of regular length socks, two or four(I honestly can't remember) pairs of knee or over the knee socks, a few hats and a few pairs of mittens and a lace shawl on the needles, as well as a skirt or two, and more bobbins on my four spinning ( Read more... )

I am def not a knitter, but I can do some very (VERY) basic sewing, like repairing hems and holes and replacing buttons. My mom taught my sister and I to do that early to extend the life of our clothes :).

Anyway, I've been thinking a lot about getting more into sewing. Would you recommend taking a class, or could I get by reading a book? Also, do you have a recommendation of a sewing machine that's good for beginners?

I'm more of a crocheter, but I knit at a very beginner level. Sadly, I don't have time to craft with work and grad school :-(

I knit and crochet (I sew fairly and just started needle felting); I'm not sure how good how I am, but I'm trying to start a line of accessories, so we'll see how that works out. :/

(Oh, and fellow Ravelers: I'm dottieneurotic over there, too! FRIEND ME)

I don't really use patterns, though; lately I've been doing a lot of freestyle stuff. It's fine, because it's generally for hats and legwarmers and stuff, and those are pretty straightforward. I'm scared to death to tackle sweaters because of the shaping.

And I just bought a new camera TODAY (!!!!), so I'll be sure to post some of the things I'm working on.

i taught myself to knit so i could make a couple of iphone cases for myself the day i got it, but that pretty much exhausts the extent of my craftiness. i can do very basic crocheting and very basic knitting.
