According to Mr. Dan this was snow pellets and not hail (I remember from the midwest that hail forms differently). Crazy nontheless!

I saw (and heard) hard, white spherical thingies - I thought that was what hail was. Not familiar with the term 'snow pellets'.

As I lay there listening to it, I thought it sounded too loud for just rain, so I cracked the blinds to look out. I saw my Galaxy Gray baby was parked under a huge Canary Island date palm, so I knew it would shield it from any hail. Then I rolled over and went back to sleep. :-)

We had hail quite a few times in the "Inland Empire" with thunder. But I don't remember San Diego County ever getting much.
